The best thing to do first, if weight is an issue- start a medical
approved diet program. If the diabetes is type 2 a low carb
lifestyle is recommended. With type 2 diabetics the pancreas makes insulin, just not enough to control blood sugars properly, or the cells that need the insulin to convert sugar into energy do not do a good job at it anymore. Anyway, diet, excercise, blood sugar monitoring (at least 4 times a day) morning, before lunch, before dinner and before bed. This way you can visually see where there may be a problem with hi's or low's and allows you
to make adjustments in your daily eating habits. Keep all scheduled doctor appoitments; endocrinologists, eye appts. etc.
so, if there is a problem it can be picked up early and dealt with.
Good support team, it is a "family issue" everyone associated with the individual needs to understand and know how to react to an emergency, such as low blood sugar. Keep a good attitute, I know it;s alot of work - but it is really worth all the effort everyone puts into it. Good luck and take care.

The best NATURAL answer to Diabetes is Bitter Melon.
This vegetable is available in all Philipino markets. I think some Indian grocery shops also have this vegetable.
Wash the vegetable and eat it raw - about half the vegetable per day and check your sugar level after about 4 days - you will see the difference. Of course I must warn you that the taste of it is very unpleasant. Once you know that it is good for you you will come to like it.
I know a person who was injecting insulin daily stopped it after his wife started to crush the vegetable and made him to drink a half cup of this juice daily.
Of course you have to have it raw. Boiling it or cooking it and eating it will have no results. So I am not sure how well your dad will enjot it.
If you get good results post it as a question in this section so that others will know the value of this vegetable.

Yes it should be economical but unfortunately it is not. In order to controll diabetes you have to controll it with doctors visits, glucose test which test strips cost, regular blood work and diet. The only way to treat diabetes is by having specialist guide you and follow their orders you need a endocrinologist, diabetes educator and dietitian. My son has had two episodes that has placed him in ICU because of viruses. Diabetes does not have a cure YET but it has come a long way in research and development since my sons diagnoses in 1995. Insulin has saved millions since it was discovered. You got diagnosed and died back then. There are so many things diabetes does to your body please see a doctor and use the knowledge they have gain a homegrown method will kill a diabetic. I have seen a lot of tragedy over under educated people diabetic cant eat sugar is the worse attitude because just about everything you eat turns into sugar in your body.

Diet and exercise.
Eat more complex carbohydrates like brown rice and whole grains. White bread is as bad as sugar. Of course stop eating anything with sugar.
Drinking a lot of water takes excess sugar out of your body.
Check you blood sugar regularly. If the previous steps are insufficient to control your diabetes your doctor may need to prescribe medication. After you have been exercising and dieting for a while and lose some weight you may not need the medications anymore.

the treatment of diabetes is like "TRIPOD", comprising of
1. Diet
2. Drugs
3. Exercise
you can not and should not try to control diabetes without the help of any of 3.
diet helps in CONTROLLED entry of glucose and other things that control the sugar
Drugs (oral as well as insulin) helps in levelling off the blood sugar level and absorption of sugar.
Exercise promptly burns the sugar which escaped the two barriers.
Insulin is the best form of anti diabetic agent and you should be afraid of using it as soon as advised by your doctor as it is the most accurate form of replacement of insulin not produced by the body (natural insulin)

Make sure you see you doctor regularly and that you keep your sugar levels adequate. If you allow diabetes to get out of control it could effect other things in your life. For example loss of you vision, kidney function and loss of limbs. These are just a few things that can happen. Hope this helps.

The best treatment for diabetes should start with your diet. Until people are diagnosed with a disease such as diabetes, alot of them have no idea how much their diet affects them. Exercise is important too.
