Almost all diet sodas are carbohydrate free and as such have no effect on your blood sugar. They do have other things that are probably bad for you but I am sick of hearing it. I am a type 2 diabetic and I drink diet sodas almost daily and seldom only one. If you look at food's components no one should eat any of it. The decision is yours but, my God, we have to have something with some taste and fun value or what is the point in living? So you can buy someone eases donuts, and candy for them.
Sorry, I reread my answer and I see my depression and level of frustration coming through. I have to go see if I can find anything to eat in the house that won't be considered suicidal...

Yes and no. Caffeine is a stimulant so avoiding that is great because it can suppress appetite. We allow my son diet coke occasionally because of the sodium content, never a good thing. We found these packets you can carry that flavor water that have 0 carbs. They are in the grocery store where they keep fruit punch mixes, lots of flavors and we do not notice a after taste. WalMart has their own brand that is cheap and good and all you do is pour into bottle of water and shake. He uses them and crystal lite. Everyone needs water daily and when you are having a high it helps flush the keytones. Good luck.

Diet sodas are ok. But try to limit them because they can dehydrate you if you are not drinking enough water. Do not replace water with diet soda.
