My son has had diabetes since he was 8 months old so we have really learned a lot through trial and era over the past 11 years. Things like fruit, pizza and potatoes send him high. Sugar free items contain artificial sweeteners like sugar alcohol which delays the blood sugar from rising and them bamb hits him later. Not to mention the stomach cramps and diarrhea you can get from the sweetener. If you are seeing a dietitian which all diabetics need they give you food choices or carbohydrates to count. My son eats a 2inch by 2 inch piece of cake and we adjust his insulin for that treat. If you are not on insulin you need to substitute your food choice. Long term advice is occasionally and sparingly. Diabetics do not release insulin to eat the sugar or like type 2 the insulin they do release does not work efficiently. Best advise revisit a dietitian doesn't cost much and the control you get is great.

There are no good sweets for a diabetic to eat. Be careful of products that say sugar free because it doesnt always mean completely sugar free. Most of these still contain high carb levels which are going to turn into sugar in your body. Sugar free jellos seem to be the best ones. They taste sweet and are low in carbs and sugar.

Safest things are angel food cake or graham crackers. There are lot of sugar free puddings and sugar free ice creams and even sugar free chocolate candy out there too..They taste pretty good.

There are tons of sugar-free desserts on the market, however, don't eat to much because they give you the runs.
