Condom effectiveness is very close to 100% provided that the condoms are USED CORRECTLY. The actual real life figure for effectiveness is more like 60%-70%, and abstinence only [aka ignorance only] sex ed classes like to point to this figure, and tell young adults "So you see, condoms don't work." This is highly misleading. The problem isn't the condoms, but that people aren't sure how to use them right. And they're not going to learn from people who have the attitude of "Don't do it, and that's all you need to know" either.

Here is some information on condoms, birth control, infection, safer sex, abstinence and other alternatives to intercourse, how to talk to your partner about sexual issues ... even a video on how to CORRECTLY apply a condom.

There is a 3% failure rate of condoms.
According to Trojan.com, Condoms are 97.8% effective in preventing STD's, and and sperm/semen.

If you really are worried you can use two condoms, which basically doubles the effectivness of the condom(s).

It's best to buy lubricate condoms that have a special lube on them that helps kill semen and stops STDS. It also strengthen's the condom. NEVER buy a condom from a convienece store or a place like Wal Mart, Target or other department stores. Although they still gurantee a 97.8% effectiveness, you don't know how long those things have been sitting on the shelves (condoms deteriate after time). Always check the date on them.
But the best thing to do is ALWAYS buy condoms from a drug store like CVS, Walgreens or whatever pharmecy you have near you. Drug stores restock the condom shelf every week with new condoms, even if the others haven't been sold there throwen out. Although no-name brands, or store brands are probley just as safe it's always (in my opinion) good to go with a trusted name such as Trojan.

Another trusted place to get condoms is at your doctors office or medical center/hospital.

Remember that condoms are only 97% effective when used correctly. Most condom boxes give instructions on how to put a condom on (yes it seems pretty self explanatory but people do often put them on wrong). Condoms can slip off too, so it's best to hold the base of your penis with the condom on to prevent this from happening. Always keep condoms in a cool dry place, and get rid of any condoms that haven't been used after about 2 weeks or as directed on the box.

I have no idea if it is a critical query however this is an reply anyhow. Huh? It isn't any more secure to make use of a thicker condom. Just purchase Trojans or yet another title company variety of condom. They are as secure as you'll be able to get. You should purchase ones with spermicide already in them. And a few astroglide positioned at the condom will likely be all you want.

if used correctly, they can be up to 99% effective i believe. make sure you squeeze the air out in the reservoir tip or else it has a greater chance of breaking. using condoms with spermicide on them also helps to kill sperm in case the condom does break.

depends what you want to use them for.. if your talking in place of rope for rock climbing there not very safe at all.. if your talking about birth control there pretty good when used right, if your talking about STD's there ok.. not the greatest, but ok..
