Actually, caffeine has SOME effect on diabetic people.

It works like this:

Caffeine itself does NOT raise the blood glucose level. So, if the person has not eaten for a while and the level has settled to what is called fasting glucose level, caffeine will not affect it at all.

However, if a person has eaten, then your body has to break down caffeine as well as carbohydrate. Because of this, your blood glucose level will rise and stay there for longer time. Study has shown about 20% rise in the blood sugar level for people consuming caffeine.

An added note, if person consumes alcohol, the effect is even worse. Human body holds breakdown alcohol a top priority and suspends almost entirely breaking down the sugar from carbohydrate. So, the blood sugar level remains higher for long time.

Caffeine actually has the effect of helping to burn glucose as long as the caffeine is taken without sugar or excessive milk. It speeds up your metabolism and some studies have shown that it lowers blood sugar. The down side is that it can raise blood pressure.

Speak to your doctor. Don't seek medical advice from strangers on a website.
