Thanks - Keep them coming
I have been disappointed at the recent lack of interest in this category, and I am pleased by the response.
"ethnic" to me is cuisine with which I am not familiar (self centred or what?) - US is strange to me (Chinse is Familiar, but I need to go on learning)
I am going to get loads of "little questions" from your answers so keep them coming!

Australian Kangaroo stew...
And it was quite tasty!

Spanish snails in piquant sauce..annoying to eat, they are really tiny...takes foerever to get them out of the shells!...But the flavour was ok.

And I agree with you I don't like the gross or vulgar answers either!

The most outrageous ethnic food I've ever eaten has GOT to be that American delicacy 'Chicken McNuggets'!!! Never before has man created food out of cardboard ... those American inventors will end starvation soon!!
; )

The most 'unusual' thing I've ever eaten is probably shishamo - they're little fish, maybe 3 ~ 5 inches long, and the most sought after are the females - males are irrelevant because they aren't full of EGGS! Every part of these fish has to be eaten - but there's hardly any meat, it's all eggs! I'm not fond of them myself, the heads taste a bit nasty, and I don't like the thought of eating brains..! This is in Japan by the way, although these days they have to be imported because they've gone to live in other seas ...!

BTW, Japanese people do NOT drink beer with live fish in! However, it sounds just about typical of the 'pranks' people play on foreigners, to see just how suggestible they are!!!
1. Will this foreigner believe that Japanese people really drink this stuff?
2. Will this foreigner be dumb enough to drink it himself...?!?!!??!

My step-dad is from Nigeria so we always at a lot of unusual foods:

Okra soup that has either beef or chicken in it, green vegetables, smoked fish, ground crayfish and a list of other ingredients.

Jollof Rice that has beef, chicken or hen in it with vegetables curry and rice

Domoda which is peanut butter stew

Potato Starch or Semolina FuFu with pepper, fish or meat stew

Fried Plantains eaten as part of dinner or a desert.

Egusi Soup which has either chicken or smoked oysters in it in place of crab and beef.

I've also tried Spinach Stew from Ghana (yummy) And Luku from Ethiopia.

Chapatis which is flat bread that taste great with thick soups or spread with butter or sprinkled with sugar and Rice Pancakes with Jam.

The most unusual desert I've had which wasn't so unusual were Sweet Balls from Ghana which is basically their version of donuts but it's more dense.

I also liked trying menudo with cabbage and Octopus and Shrimp Cocktail.

On my moms side I've eaten chitterlings which aren't bad at all, unless they haven't been properly cleaned, tripe, head cheese, pig ears, pig feet, rabbit, (poor thumper), deer meat, hog mogs, and pickled pig feet (ewwww)

Kibie, which is Lebanese, and is raw lamb, with pine nuts and wheat, seasoned and served with Olive Oil and flat bread. I also love stuffed grape leaves, which is just what it says it is, young tender leaves from grape vines, rolled and stuffed with meat and rice, cooked in a tomatoe sauce ( like a stuffed cabbage roll). A little Hummous( which is a dip made from chick peas) would be nice on the side. Baklava for dessert..baked layers of Philo dough, dripping with honey. YUM. My best friend is Lebanese, and I just love their food.

It would have to be Durian in Thailand, served with ice cream. I'd never eaten anything before that smelled like sewerage but it had a delicious taste!

However, a word of warning, it repeats for hours and can be vile!

We have several 'ethnic' dishes in the UK that raise a few eyebrows / churn stomachs in other lands!

Haggis - made from pig/sheep offal & oatmeal.
Black Pudding - A cooked Blood sausage.
Jellied Eels - cold, cooked eel in gelatine.
