cold sores are caused by the varicella virus, the same one that causes chicken pox, it lives in the nervous system and chooses it's own time to express itself....if you had chicken pox as a child, then it lives in your nervous system and you caught it from no one.
Herpes both oral and genital is pretty much in the same family of virus, but the expression of the virus is obviously dependant on location. You can transmit from mouth to genitalia and vice versa.
And of course from genitalia to genitalia....this can happen whether there is an active lesion or not. Usually, cold sores, appear in times of severe stress, or shortly after such things. Unless your significant other also expresses the virus thru sores on gentalia or mouth there is no way to be certain you got it from him, and if you had chicken pox as a child, then it is almost certain your cold sores are a result of that.

Cold sores and oral herpes are the exact same thing. Also maybe you've heard of fever blisters these are the exact same thing. Most people I think I've heard the estimate at somewhere around 85% have HSV 1. Most people acquire this in childhood. You probably had some when you were younger and maybe don't remember them. The virus lies dormant in your nervous system and reactivates itself at times usually from a cold (hence the name cold sore), too much exposure to the sun (fever blister) or sometimes from stress or no reason at all. It is possible that you could have contracted Herpes(HSV) type 1 for the first time but I doubt it. I think it is possible but very rare to acquire genital herpes (HSV2) of the mouth. The best thing to do is go to your doctor now and request a Herpes Select test IGg. That way you will know if you have already been exposed to it. Your body normally take at least 6 weeks but usually as much as 12 weeks to produce antibodies so that is the only way you would be able to determine if you got it from this exposure. go to your doctor and if it is negative for HSV1 and HSV2 then you go back in 3 months and test again and it is positive then you know you got it from him. There is nothing to worry about having HSV1 though. Almost everyone has it and it is not much of a nuisance. Also, don't be surprised if you would show positive for HSV2 25% of the adult population has it and most don't even know it.

Cold sores are cause by the Herpes virus or HSV for short. It can be caused by Herpes Simplex I or Herpes Simplex II. Most of the time the Herpes Simplex I affects lips and type II affects genitals, but sometimes you can get II on lips and I on genitals. You could have gotten them from his other girl Because he has been unfaithful, you should get yourself checked out for other STDs as well. You never know what else that gals been spreading around!
Contrary to what the nurse said - Varicella Zoster does not cause cold sores - it causes chicken pox and shingles.

Absolutely. If he has cold sores (typically herpes simplex virus 1) he could have passed it to you by simply kissing you. Even if he has no signs or symptoms of the virus, like blisters, he can still pass it to you. I say "typically" because herpes simplex virus 1 can cause genital herpes too. In fact, about 30% of people with genital herpes got it from cold sores.
If he got genital herpes from this girl then he can pass it to you if you give him oral sex (which could cause cold sores) or if you had sex with him (which could cause genital herpes). Again, he doesn't need to be showing any signs on the virus to give it to you. According to Valtrex, 70% of people got genital herpes from their partner when they were showing no signs or symptoms of the virus. That's how I got it!
So, yes, if you were to have gave him oral sex and he had genital herpes, you could definitely have got it from him like that. It's more rare to get it this way, but it can happen. You could have also got it from him by kissing him if he has oral herpes (cold sores).
By the way cold sores are caused by the herpes virus, so if you have cold sores, you have herpes.

My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. Everywhere I read it says it stops flaring up so much after time, but its not getting less frequent for her. She's been on Antiviral meds the whole time, too. She also has type 1 diabetes which she has had her whole life, which really weakens her immune system. Will it ever get better?
But after a friend share this video everything has changed.

There at different types of herpes. the type that infect your genital area and your lip are not the same type. If he's been cheating, he could have gotten it from kissing someone then given it to you. If it is bothering you that bad, go to the doctor and get a test.
