Meat is pure protein, almost nothing but (animal flesh is almost completely made of protein), whereas there are comparatively meagre amounts in even the most protein rich plant product.
Eggs, butter, cheese and milk are also quite good sources.

beans. get the dried ones in the bags...you can often get several pounds for a dollar, and they swell when they cook, so you really have more than it looks like. when you buy canned ones, you are getting lots of water, not as much bean.
