How Are Genital Warts Prevented?
The only surefire way to prevent genital warts is not to have sex. Teens who do have sex can get some protection by properly using a latex condom every time they have any form of sexual intercourse (vaginal, oral, or anal sex). Condoms may not give complete protection because the virus can spread from the areas of the genitals not covered by the condom. Condoms also reduce the risk of other sexually transmitted infections as well as pregnancy.

The U.S. government recently approved a vaccine to prevent HPV.

They just came out w/ a vaccine however there are about 100 different strains of hpv and the vaccine only covers about 4 of the most dangerous. So even if you get the vaccine you may still get the strain. However I have hpv and I am now clear of the virus. I have had normal paps for 3 yrs. now and my doctor said that I can't spread it b/c my body fought the virus off. It is just laying dormant in my body. She described it as the chicken pox. However I know there's no hpv test for men to see if his is still active.

Using condoms consistently and properly every time you have sex may reduce your risk of contracting the virus but there is evidence to suggest that condoms are not very reliable at offering protection against the virus. Additionally, condoms cannot provide any protection if you come into direct contact with genital warts. If you or your partner are having an outbreak of genital warts, it is best to avoid all sexual contact until the warts have completely disappeared.

Some of these people answering questions really shouldn't be. HPV can be spread via contact! So condom's WILL NOT prevent you from contracting genital warts.

Phone sex!
2 or 3 condoms, in case one breaks.
Do you want to get married, ever? Children in your future?
Eventually, you will get lazy/EXCITED and fail to use protection and expose yourself to the disease. Or your bio clock will tick so loudly, you will decide to chance having a child with him, and expose yourself.
My advice, keep him for a loving friend, and move on for sex partner and life partner. If he really loves you, he will not want you to hurt yourself and your future for a sex life with so great a risk. If you love you, you will be careful with your future.

Use condoms.

Check out www.webmd.com, some forms of HPV can cause Cancer in women. You don't want to risk it.

It's good that he let you know he has it, but don't feel like you need to accept that for yourself.
