I am not sure if any of you who answerd this are really diabetic or know anyone or anything about diabetes.
But most of you are wrong. Sorry, but you are. You are stating myths and misconceptions. Having a beer isn't going to kill a diabetic and no...
A diabetics liver isn't under "attack" that made me laugh. Clearly you don't know the physciological implications behind what diabetes is if you think it is about the liver LOL.
Alchoal consumption by anyone, diabetic or not, should be done in moderation. If you are getting sloshed every day..yeah son then there is a problem and get some help. That is true for anyone.
If you are diabetic you can pretty much consume the same things the rest of the non-diabetic world can...just maintin a good watch on yuor glucose levels and if you are suppose to..take insulin and/or your oral meds and see a physician regularly.
I would suggesst light beer because, yes beer does have sugar..but so does damn near everything else.
Another myth: Diabetics can't have ANY sugar.
Well then, I guess we just can't eat at all because , like I said, everything pretty much as sugar and you can't live on sugar-free Jell-O and cookies (plus they taste awful, who would want to?)
If you are diabetic and enjoy a beer a night you are not going mess up your glucose levels and you are not going to destroy your liver. If you have a drinking problem, then yes, I would say it is time to start to worry...but a beer a night is not a problem.
My doctor explained this too me when I asked him alchoal consumption when I was diagnoised as IDDM in '98. That information hasn't changed..
God the myths I swear...

In addition to the huge amount of glucose in the beer there is the side effect that alcohol has of causing people to take risks - which means that a tipsy diabetic is prone to cheat even more and eat something they shouldn't, indulge in a second bottle of beer, or skip testing or insulin. It is a slippery slope that should best be avoided.

Beer has more sugar content than other drinks. According to doctors one drink a day is good for diabetic patients.

Any alcohol intake should be monitored and insulin will need to be adjusted up and down starting the yo-yo affect. For me its just not worth it. Your friend should spend a few hours in a dialysis clinic just to get a "taste" of what he is headed for.

People who suffer from diabetes, hypo, and hyperglycemia do not need to consume alcohol. It can only make the situation worse.

You will destroy yourself. Your liver is already under attack, and your kidneys will take the hit.
You will develop high cholesterol like the plague and other heart conditions.
Don't do it. Your life is worth more than that. Get help. Take milk thistle, start off low dose and increase it slowly over time.
