Hello:
Some of the public health clinics are free to have the std profiles done or will charge you on a sliding scale based on your salary. They will ask you how many partners you have, what type of sexual activity you are involved in, ie. oral, anal, vaginal, etc. Some will ask if you are heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or use intravenous drugs, however I no longer ask these questions, because I dont think they are important and do not change anything if any of the tests come back positive.
An STD profile consists of HIV antibodies, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, syphilis (the blood test is called an "RPR"), Hepatitis B antibodies, herpes antibodies. When a patient comes in to see me for an std profile, this is the set of tests I do. If male, the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are a swab inserted into the penis, somewhat painful but quick, the rest of the tests are performed by drawing blood. If female, a pelvic exam will be done and the swabs will be inserted into the cervix, the others are blood tests. The results are usually ready in about 5-7 days depending on the lab your doctor uses.
Because of the sensitivity of the tests (STD's) by law these results cannot be given over the phone so you will have to go back into the clinic to get your results in person.
I hope this helped answer your question and alleviated some of your concerns.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

Tell them you have a "personal" problem. That will be a delicate way of saying that you are concerned about stds or whatever. Then when you are in a private setting you can explain further. Planned Parenthood or your local Health Department may be able to help you. You may also be able to find clinics listed in your phone book that sound like just the right place for you. Some places charge on a sliding scale and some are free. You could call anonymously before you go to find out cost.

You can go to a free clinic or if u have medicaid that should cover it. They will probably ask questions like did u use protection. You shouldnt be scared at all because its very common. I see it all the time. The best way to cope with any disease is to know about it. So dont wait! It can get worse without treatment! The procedures will probably b a look at your vagina and some samples of urine or something along those lines but like i said it is very common and the sooner you know the better!

Before having intercourse with anyone new, it is constantly a well suggestion to get established, BOTH of you. People could have STDs and now not understand it, and so, notably with virtually part of all sexually-energetic humans having an ETD this present day, it isn't a nasty suggestion in any respect to be established. Some illnesses, corresponding to many varieties of HPV, haven't any signs. Only a experiment can inform either one of you if both of you have got whatever. If both accomplice claims that the opposite one simply does not have believe, then that man or woman is hiding whatever, such because the potential of getting an STD. You will NEVER remorse looking ahead to your first time, however you very good might remorse now not ready. You best have one first time. Wait in this. Believe me.

There are free health clinics. They will ask you about your complete sexual history. They are going to ask you for everything because you are going to have to tell your sexual partners if you do have a sexual history. Usually they will assign you a number, or they will call you about your file. You will end up getting a papsmear with a culture. You will get a vaginal exam, as well as some blood work if you want an HIV/AIDS test.
Good luck to you.
Call the county health dept for your state if you need some help.

Call the National AIDS & STD Hotline and they will tell you places in your area that will test you for free or low cost
1-800-342-AIDS
Also look up the "Department of Health" online to find the one in your area. They will test you for free at low cost. (type "Department of Health + city state name)
Dont be scared! You are doing Great to get tested! Its something that All women have to go through. But its great because it will detect if anything is wrong. If you dont get tested and treated for any STD's that you have, you can get cancer or become sterile and never be able to have kids. Get tested, and Good Luck.

Go in and ask for a physical. Tell them you believe you've been exposed to an STD. They will likely do a pelvic exam and draw blood. If needed, you will be given treatment. If you have an STD, they will ask for names of your sexual contacts so they can be notified, but your identity won't be revealed to the people you name. No big deal.

I imagine some places are free and some aren't. Don't be scared. They might ask you a few personal questions but you can ask for a female nurse. She won't make you feel embarrassed. In fact, she might be proud of you for taking responsibility for yourself.
