I live in the Southern region of the USA, and many growers are reporting a slow growth this year. I have seen them in the health food stores as well @ $12.00/lbs. but one grower could supply the average health food store in any given town in their area. Any Shiitake growers out there with information.

Hadn't heard about it, but my guess would be the heat.

"Shiitake mushrooms can be harvested at 2 week intervals for up to 16 weeks. A 50-80° F environment is ideal."
