Is anyone aware of the property of Celery to cause the mouth lining and gums numb when eating it? I had never heard of this and suddenly I had 2 people tell me that their mouths go numb when eating celery. Is this common? Every heard of this?

It probably because celery contains Eugenol. This is the active ingredient in Clove Oil, a substance that deadens nerve pain and is sometimes used for toothache. Not enough in the celery to take care of a toothache though, the tongue/gums are really sensitive parts of the mouth.

P,S. Not everyone has that happen. Some people are more sensitive than others. Pass the celery please.....

For me celery taste bitter if the ribs aren't removed. Maybe it's not numbing but a bitter taste.

their bosdy breaks it down into somethign else. That what make posion so toxic. It is that fact that when your body breaks it down it turns harmful. and some posions break down diffeently for different people.

So same thign with this. So try food if it desn't harm you enjoy in moderation.
