You already know what has to be done. You need to get and maintain good blood glucose contol. Your numbness is just one of many unpleasant health problems that result from uncontrolled DM. There's no way around it. Call your doctor, get an appointment, keep the appointment, get pills and/or insulin, get on a meal plan. Get control of your DM or it will control you, unpleasantly.

The numbness in your hands likely is not caused by diabetes. The first place you'd notice numbness associated with DM is your feet.
There're a number of possible causes of the numbness you describe...and your best bet, if it's intefering with your life, is to speak to a physician about it.

As with most medical questions, my answer is CALL YOUR DOCTOR.
And you need to follow both the medication and dietary restrictions, and exercise regime you have been given and get it under control. There are WAY too many complications that can happen in even those who have controlled their blood glucose closely.

As a Medical professional, I suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible. If you have no insurance, go to the closest hospital emergency room. They can not turn you down for care!
Do not let the condition go unattended.

Sounds like neuropathy and there is little you can do for it. You can try hot/warm baths or exercising the area. But the diabetes is the culprit here. Call your doctor and ask for advice.

We have recently seen a woman who was having this problem. We had her try the magnetic insoles(not the ones from the drug store as they aren't effective) She was immediately able to feel her hands as she was standing on these oriental devices. If interested please e-mail me and I will put you in touch with other resources etc. Thanks Rosemary
