Can elevated blood sugar cause a person to have dull taste when they eat and drink and even breathing in tastes weird?? I am very tired and it's a different kind of tired, weakness. My sugar came back 126 after a 12 hour fast and it was done first thing in the morning. My doctor lost my urine test and I am not so sure she is hearing me and how I feel.

The lab flagged my glucose results as high. Apparently the levels have changed with the major labs at least. Does anyone know or have heard of things having no taste, even water and breathing air has weird feeling in mouth, left foot swelling and very tired and dizzy, hungry but feel nausea. My grandfather(maternal) had diabetes and took meds everyday and I am scared. My blood pressure is great and so is cholesterol, but I have alot of additional stress than the normal daily stuff and don't stay asleep. Thanks for "listening!!"

A fasting blood sugar of 126 is considered a little high, but further testing is needed to determine if you have Diabetes. You need a glucose tolerance test where they see how your body handles/processes large amounts of glucose (a form of sugar). You also need to have a Hemaglobin A1C blood test. This test shows what your average blood sugar has been doing over a 3-month period of time.

The most common symptoms for Diabetes include increased hunger (polyphagia), increased thirst (polydipsia), and increased urination (polyuria).

I think you need a complete physical with a full workup as far as laboratory work is concerned...including testing your thyroid, electrolytes, and a complete blood count to make certain you're not anemic.

You might be diabetic with a 126 after 12 hours of fasting. Try eating a meal and testing your blood glucose after two hours have past. If that's elevated above 140, then you need help with glucose control. You might ask for an HbA1c test to determine your glucose control for the past three months.

The tiredness or weakness may be caused by many other things. I can't tell from what you mentioned. When I had high sugar levels, I was never tired or weak. I felt great even though I was not! When I am weak, my sugar level is low and falling - always a bad sign. You doctor should be listening. Have a talk with your doctor about what you are feeling and what can be done about it. If you are getting nowhere, find another doctor and stick with that one.

One of the things I do when I really don't feel well and go to see the doctor is write down what all my symtoms are and how I feel. I agree that doctors don't always hear us, but the notes seem to work for me. Hope you feel better.

follow up tests would be your best best. 126 is slightly elevated but not to worry, could be borderline though......
