soy sauce contains anchovies, and so does fish sauce.. Can they be used interchangeably in recipes?

your right...it is worchetsire sauce that has anchovies in it...lol...=)...

No they are not. I lived in Phan Thiet, Vietnam for a couple of years, which is the fish sauce capital of the world, and I have seen them make nouc mam (not sure of the spelling but that is how they say Fish Sauce). Anyway they take a bunch of small fish and put it into these large clay jars and they let it rot for a few weeks--yeah it smells like nouc mam. Soy sauce is made from a soy bean. I happen to like them both, but they are not the same

Soy sauce does NOT contain anchovies. Fish sauce is fishy. Soy sauce is not.

I live in Japan and use soy sauce almost everyday.(*^o^*) Soy sauce has NO fish in it. Soy sauce is made from Soybeans, Wheat, Salt and Water.

no, soy sauce like the name suggested is made of soy which is fermented.
fish sauce is from fermented anchovies

The only common thing fish sauce and soy sauce have in common is lots of salt. Fish sauce is usally make with mayonnaise (usually white or cream color) and soy sauce is usually made with soy ( brown or black in color)!@

no! soy sauce is lik darker....and fish sauce is made from some kind of fish...so it kinda smells....and soy sauce is made out of soy bean
