Genital herpes is type 2 herpes whereas the classic cold sore one is type 1 herpes. I suggest you have a doctor look at the cold sore you are talking about.

if you gave head to someone with genital herpes, you can get a cold sore (the other herpes virus), you can try putting neosporin or a triple anti-biotic on it and call your doc. since it has been there for a while, you might need an prescription. Plus if you are kissing this person or any one else for that matter, you are passing the virus back and forth. And if someone kisses you and comes in contact with this cold sore then goes down on you, you could end up with genital herpes. I would definetly talk with a doctor about it.

it dosent matter, Herpes type 1&2 are so alike, you can get either one anywhere on your body, but like all viruses it prefers warm moist places, dont put anything on it,and dont touch it, needs to be dry to heal, but herpes should clear up in 1-2 weeks you need to see a Doctor or go to a health clinic it might not be Herpes but if it is Herpes there are meds that will clear it up and prevent it from comimg back

Ok, for the last time, everyone write this down. Herpes simplex I and II are the SAME VIRUS, just in different locations. You have herpes on your face, plain and simple. If you kiss him, and he goes down on you while you're having an outbreak, or if he has an active outbreak of oral herpes, he can transfer it to your genitals, in which case you will then have genital herpes.
Oral herpes=genital herpes=same virus.

Everyone is right here, a cold sore IS herpes, and if you've never had one before, you probably got it from that person, as it can be transmitted from genitals to mouth, and vise versa. You can't cure herpes, you will probaly have outbreaks throughout your life. Talk to this person and tell him that you got this, maybe he is unaware of his condition, or is uninformed about herpes' transmission.

In this time in history it no longer matters whether you have type 1 or type 2 herpes because they BOTH grow really well in either oral or genital locations. They are different enough that you can catch both, however. Months is a long time. Maybe a doctor can help you? Ice cubes help the pain sometimes. Not too long so you do not freeze the skin....Stop the ice when it is numb.

i believe the genital herpes is a type II that is different form type I that affects orally. SO i would say no, if u get genital herpes, it can only affect u on ur genitals. Another important fact is that whether ur partner had an outbreak. The chances of getting it are smaller if he/she didnt

HSV-1 and HSV-2 are transmitted through direct contact, including kissing, sexual contact (vaginal, oral, or anal sex), or skin-to-skin contact. Genital herpes can be transmitted with or without the presence of sores or other symptoms. It often is transmitted by people who are unaware that they are infected, or by people who do not recognize that their infection can be transmitted even when they have no symptoms.... its genital herpes on your face from oral sex...
