How did Apple Pie become a cultural icon in the United States?
MARKETING! That's right, we wanted it and we made it so via heavy marketing. A popular advertising jingle goes something like, "Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet..." It wasn't until the last 30-40 years that apple pie became the icon that it is.
Where did "As American as apple pie" come from?
Good question as apple pie did not originate in the United States. It's usually associated with motherhood and how it's wholesome. Can you just see Ward Clever's Mom in 1950's outfit baking a nice warm apple pie for the Beaver and his friends?

U know the american dream in the 1950's..... Apple pie is in part of the Category.. Didnt u know that? Apple pie is STILL FAMOUS In these days that people cant forget how DELICIOUS apple pie is and even with an ice cream .. its a GO! No one can even say EEEWWWWWWW Right, America?

maybe because apple and American both start with A, and Johnny Appleseed is one of the few figures of American folklore that people actually know about. I don't like apple pie all that much, personally, but my husband loves it.

It's very tasty! I like all kinds for fruit pies but apple is a favourite. I think it's a good way to use apples and you can also store pies in the freezers. Nothing goes to waste.

I don't know...it was probably some pre-WWI or II deal.
I would guess there weren't very many fruits available for making pies, or the fact that apples can be found all year round would be my guess.
My personal favorite is pizza pie! he he

Apples grow well in the US and also, people like tradition, especially in what they eat. That's where the term 'comfort food' comes from, traditional eating habits.

Well, we have a lot of apples. Have you tried it? We love it because it's so good. Especially with ice cream on top.
