The way I see it, is you're not really eating the flavour of "meat", you're eating the flavour of whatever ingred's were used in that product. I was a vegan for a few years and I almost died when I ate a veggie hot dog for the first time. I had to keep going back and making sure there actually weren't any meat products in the ingred's. I think the fact that we are able to come up with meat-flavoured things is great for the vegetarian community as more meat-eaters can make the transition more smoothly, AND we don't have to feel like we're social outcasts if we have the same things.

I noticed that, how bizarre!
I think it depends on why people are vegitarian. If they oppose eating meet for ethical reasons then they probably wouldn't eat the cheese and onion. Some might eat the smoky bacon because it doesn't actually harm animals, but some may not like it still. After all, (assuming you don't agree with canabalism) you probably wouldn't eat people flavoured crisps wether they contained actual human or not, and many vegetarians see animals as people.
Some vegetarians just don't like eating meat because of the taste, so they would probably have the cheese and onion, but not the smoky bacon (my friend does this).

I'm a life-long quite strict vegetarian but I have no problem with eating meat flavour crisps that are veggie. However, there aren't many I like and that may be because being veggie (as everyone is ALWAYS telling me!) - I have quite bland taste! But in theory I can't see why a veggie would have a problem with it coz it not real and meat eaters tell me that the flavours are nothing like the real thing anyway?

Im a veggie and i dont eat meat flavoured crisps. It really depends on the reason why you became a veggie in the first place to why a veggie will or will not eat them. Walkers flavour Cheese n Onion are suitable for veggies now but they never used to be, but there meat flavoured are? Talk bout bein bloody awkward n confusin.
Anyway im off to chew a carrot!

Yes, a vegetarian is against eating an meat products. Tastefully Simple makes a Bacon Dip mix that is completely vegetarian. I see nothing wrong with eating it while being a vegetarian. No pigs were harmed in the writing of this message.

If the flavoring was not real meat product I might eat it. But on a health level smoky bacon crisps don't sound like they'd be too good for you.

I alway check the packet before eating them - if it says suitable for vegetarians I don't have a problem eating something that is meat flavoured.
You're right about the cheese & onion - many brands are prepared with animals. Potato Heads seems to be the worse ones!

well personally the flavouring is not actually meat. But it's all about ethics. You like the flavour of meat or you don't. If you don't then you don't have anything to do with animals meat, leather shoes, pillows (Feathers) most clothes (Wool) There are not many true vegetarians out there if they are really honest with themselves. As they would be very hungry, cold, homeless. did you know your carpets say man-made but there are some items from animals haaaa!!!!
