Even though this question has been satisfactorily answered I will add my two cents. In the Old Testament the Jews were under the Law which was given in the book of Leviticus and again during the second giving of the law in Deuteronomy. Leviticus 11:2-7 gives a good summary of the animals which Jews may eat. Basically it says they can eat any meat from an animal which has cloven hooves and chews its cud. So even though a pig has cloven hooves it does not chew its cud which means it is unclean. They were (and I guess still are) under a set of strict set of guidelines regarding eating. That is where we get "kosher" food from. Kosher food is food that Jews can eat. Christians do not follow the kosher rules because we are not under the law. It was fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

It's directed at Jewish people. The common sense of it is, is that pork spoils easily without refrigeration, which was not a convenience way back then. And you probably already know, consuming spoiled pork will have a dire consequence on your all too human body; hence the directive.
And also, salting pork could have been a way for preserving, but salt was scarce or non-existent for the early Hebrews.

Because it tastes better than crispy fried islamic fundamentalist fanatics. If we spent all our time worrying about why one country eats dogs, and another no cows, and still another only goats, we would all starve. The bible is not as literal as you want to interpret it. Every religion and country has a different interpretation of what is in the bible. Your bible says turn the other cheek and cast no stones - so that means you shoud not question others - but question why you are dissatisfied and jealous. Make do with what you have and believe and leave others alone. Fanaticism is stupid.

in the starting up no longer all Christians do eat pink meat. the reason many Christians forget concerning the passage interior the old testomony has to do with a narrative interior the hot testomony, were God tells the apostle Peter that it truly is okay to eat some thing. Many have used this as justification to eat some thing it fairly is forbidden interior the old testomony. you'll stumble on the tale in Acts 10. Many Christians nonetheless avert pink meat, because it isn't as healthy of a meat to eat or because the nonetheless attempt to keep each and every of the old rules.

Not eating pork was only of the many, many laws given in the Old Testament. When Jesus came to earth, and later died for our sins, salvation was attained by belief in Him rather than obeying the many laws from the Old Testament.

because it is technically unclean... it is one of the *garbage men* of the earth, it eats garbage... at least it used to in bible times. These days i think usually in the west the piggies are fed decent food like is fed to other animals, thus, they arent half as bad to eat. But i wouldnt recommend eating too much pork or bacon in places like India... they still are fed garbage\excrements (i'm serious) there. and no its not only because it was being sacrificed to idols... its because it was plain dirty and unhealthy. The bible says ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods. So God doesnt want you to make yourself sick by eating unhealthy foods.

where in the bible does it say that? we as humans weren't meant to eat meat but since god made us and knew that we would betray him and leave the garden of eaden he knew that we would eat meat, thats why he made our teeth able to saw and chop/cut meat which is why we have canine teeth as well as molers to grind vegetables. but i do believe i remember why not to eat pork, beacause it is an unholy animal dirty, unclean filthy animal but as most people dont care they eat it anyway but i dont believe there is a law saying that we are not allowed or banned from eating pork in the bible... and im sure that there are some christrians that dont.
