So, what is the real reason, that Californian resteraunts like Subway and other resteraunts charge extra for avocados?

Up until last year, avocados were very expensive at the wholesale level, so the prices went up.

However, this year the market is glutted and wholesale prices have fallen almost 50%--so the profit margin for the restaurants remains high.

They charge that much because they can, and because people will pay for it.

Because they realize that to eat something that tastes that bad a person is stupid enough to cheat out of money so they charge them extra!

It's a frequent request, plus its pricey and that possibly a way to discourage customers from making that choice.
