I recently after a night of drinking went home with a guy and had unprotected sex with him. I have never had a one night stand before so I feel very quilty and ashamed. I am on birth control so I am not worried about getting pregnant but I am worried about STD's. I talked with the guy and he assured me that he had been tested within the last year and he was clean and had only protected sex with the other girl(s) he had been with this year. My thing is if he had unprotected sex with me than he has probably done it before. How soon can I get checked for STD's and how worried should I be. Please help... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can get tested for any STD except HIV/AIDS immediately. The symptoms of HIV may take up to six months to develop, so while you can get tested now, you have to return for further testing at least once a month until you're out of danger.

Any hospital or gynecology clinic can do the testing for you, but check with your local Planned Parenthood branch(http://www.plannedparenthood.org/ ). They will know of a place in your area you can go to have the testing done, and will have more advice than I can give on how to keep yourself safe in the future.

It's wonderful you didn't take this guy at his word! Your health is more important than having faith in someone else's memory and integrity. My heart's with you. Good luck!

STD testing requires some time between when a person is infected and when the test can be expected to identify the infection. These are called window periods or incubation periods. They vary from a few days to 6 months. During incubation or window periods, an infected person can transmit the disease to someone else. The window period if you are doing a blood test tends to be longer than for other tests, as they are for the most part testing the person's immune response rather than for the "bug" itself. Remember with STD testing that you can still develop the infection after the tests are taken. A person could, therefore, have received recent negative test results yet still have an infection that could be transmitted to others. Also, while tests are mostly accurate they can be falsely negative and very occasionally, falsely positive.

I believe it varies by the STD. If you have reason to suspect that you may have had contact with someone that is HIV positive and it was I believe in the last 12 hours, you can go to the hospital and get put on a cocktail.

The other STD's, I supposed you could be tested but they may not show up for about 30 days or until you get symptoms leading you to believe you have an STD.

With HIV, if you go get tested, they usually ask you to come back in 90 days I believe to be retested (could be sixty).

If you have a concern, you should contact a medical healthcare professional.

I don't want to freak you out, but you should probably get tested regularly for a few years. Some symptoms don't show at all for that long, and other STD's like HIV can show up something like 6 years after you actually contracted it. It's rare for it too take that long but possible. Besides, it's also a good idea to get checked regularly, because condoms are never 100%! I really don't want to make you paranoid, I just want to make you aware.

This will vary greatly. Each disease has a mind of its own! Most STD's will show signs within 4-6 weeks. I would definitely make an appointment with your primary care giver and explain the situation with them and get a papsmere and also STD testing done. You will have to give blood for a few of them, including the HIV one. Good luck, babe!

You can get a check up the next day at the county free clinic. But, if you want to go to the emergency just complain about stomach cramps and extreme itching. Then, they might slide you through. Since you are having sex, you should research STD's and their symptoms. Keep an eye out for vaginal changes. Good luck!

you should be worried and should get tested in about a week. I don't want to scare you but if you do get something don't start having unprotected sex with guys to get even it was your fault in the first place. if you don't have anything next time use protection.
