Try mentioning to your doctor that you broke the 14 hour fast by drinking a drink loaded with sugar.
Normally if you're supposed to fast, you can drink water, not cola.
It would definitely be wise to get re-tested, living with diabetes can be difficult for someone of any age.

The coke should have been out of your system. If you drank it before your fasting time started, it would not show in the test.
Go back to the doctor. There is a better diabetes test. Easy to do. You drink a really sugary liquid and after one hour they take a blood sample. That's it.
Some symptoms of diabetes would be drinking huge amounts of liquid and always feeling thirsty. Going to the bathroom alot. Sudden change in your body weight.
Better to check with your Dr. just to make sure.

It means that the result is not normal but may be within the range classed as 'impaired fasting glucose'
Stress or infection can cause this as well as diabetes.
Your doctor will probably check it again in a few weeks time.

It is not the coke. People with good glucose tolerance (non diabetics) produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar quite quickly no matter how much they take and their blood sugar will not go over 11mmls/L

You see, when the doctor requested a 14-hr fasting, it means nothing by mouth (as in anything..water, candy, juice) but you drunk coke and that is loaded with sugar. Better be telling your doctor the truth or else you will tagged as diabetic even you are not. You just wasted the test and not to mention the fasting (if you did) just because of the coke. Hope this helps.

Being a diabetic myself I know there are several tests which they can do to tell them everything from your blood sugar reading now to its average over the last 3 months.
Most non diabetics do not have a huge increase in their blood sugar reading even if they have just drank coke because their body is able to cope and react to it.
If you have high blood sugar levels, your urine will be very dark in colour, you will have a thirst all the time and need to pee a lot.

He will need to do a glucose tolerance test which consists of you drinking a large sugar laden drink and then he will check your blood.Have you had any symptoms such as weight loss, hunger, thirst, not feeling well, sores that heal slowly. If you do have diabetes it is not the end of the world. With a proper diet and medication and lifestyle changes you can live a long life.I see a cure for diabetes in this lifetime with stem cell research.

You may or may not have diabetes because the tests made on you, if any, may not be as exhaustive as need be. There are other tests that need to be done before a definitive statement of your condition can be made. Your fasting is long enough to eliminate your sugar intake as a potential cause of your elevated sugar level.

More than likely, the insulin your body produces, isn't breaking down sugars as quickly as it should. Also, believe it or not, water does play a roll in "fasting" tests. "Fasting" means absolutely nothing, not even a drop of water. That also may have had something to do with the test.

Maybe it takes more than just a blood test to give a definate diagnosis.
