I went to the Dr. this morning for my weekly reading (i've been doing this for about 2 weeks) and it was 180/116. My previous reading were 130/100 and 115/98.
for the past 3 weeks I've been eating fruits, salads (little or no dressing) and oatmeal and drinking about a gallon of water a day. I've been walking about 2 miles every other day.
He has put me on medicine to help keep my bp down while he gets my tests results back.
Are there any other steps I can take to help keep my bp down?

lower your sodium in take. try following the DASH diet (dietary approaches to stop hypertension). information on this diet can be found all over the web. any dietician can also give you help on this topic. just keep up being active and exercising, and in combination with a good, heart smart diet, you can get your BP down.

wow those are high readings. Don't drink 2 much water because that can lower your sodium level which is also very dangerous.
Try walking a good brisk walk everyday. Cut out all greasy foods. Do you need to lose weight? Even 10 to 15 pounds can make a big difference. Sometimes you have high blood pressure from heredity too, or for some other reason that can't be helped. My mother is this tiny little thing, excersizes everyday and doesn't put a bad thing in her body, she got hit by lightning about 19 years ago and that is the result of her having high blood pressure now. I hope you can get it under control.

stress reduction! buy some relaxtion cd's and try yoga or something. i have depression, and am overweight. my BP is borderline, but when my depression meds were out of wack, my BP was 180/100 and up everyday! now, that my meds are working and im relaxed it's back down to normal. my doctor said it takes years of eating wrong to make BP go up, so eating right for just a few weeks isn't going to work :( there's just no easy answer, sorry

You need to increase the strength and elasticity of your vascular system, this can be done with bioflavonoids. It is a safe, natural way to lower BP and prevent stroke's.

Hey, it's something you have or you don't.. But you can prevent it by; drinking lots of water and putting salt on your food.. it makes your blood pressure rise :) But you shouldn't feel bad, people with a low blood pressure tend to live longer.. ;) It's just annoying.. because we feel tired a lot of time.. and when we make a sudden move we see all of these dots around.. but drinking a lot of water and exercising is the best remedy.. I have a low blood pressure myself.. I discovered it two years ago and my doctor told me these things.. I hope it helped a bit and take care ;)

Weight lost is a good thing- it does take some time for it to drop- unless high blood pressure runs in your family.

Watch high carbs and especially salty food. If you're on meds. take them regularly. Keep excercising... and don't give up.

In addition to what RN said - lose weight (yeah, I know its hard, it is for most of us), and walk briskly EVERY day.

If you are female, you may have to go off birth control if you are using it.

If you are smoking QUIT. NOW. Nobody thinks it is sexy, it is just stupid.
