Could be any age if the heart attack is a coronary embolism (blood clot only) that often results from a scarred mitral valve, typically caused by Rheumatic Fever. But if the person has plaque buildup that narrows the arteries, a small clot from elsewhere in the body completes the blockage and causes a heart attack. Usually these people are over 45 or 50, but could be younger people if their eating habits caused a lot of buildup at an early age.

Heart attacks can happen as early as your teens, but that's very uncommon and usually involves some type of congenital heart defect or severe drug abuse. It's probably most common in people from ages 45-65. The sad thing is it can be prevented, even if your family history is a strike against you. Exercise and diet are your two biggest weapons against heart disease, and now they're saying that a lot of foods that were supposedly so "bad" for you, like eggs and plant oils, are actually good for a healthy heart. And there is a lot of truth to high-fiber diets helping -- my cholesterol took a nose-dive from 285 to 130 when I went on a high-fiber diet. BOTTOM LINE: The better job you do of taking care of yourself, the less chance you have of ever having a heart attack.

They can happen at any age, depending on if you have heart disease and other factors of your lifestyle. Most folks get them closer to their 50's and 60's, but having them happen in your 20's is NOT unheard of.
