First you must find the proper state of mind. Know that this MAY be for the rest of your life, and it MAY be very temporary. I went Vegan two years ago, actually took it a step further - I went RAW VEG. Best two years of my life. I approached it as something I was doing for the moment, not having any idea of how long it would last.

My family is very close and they all thought I was NUTS, but I was resolute enough that I carried through. It was GREAT for my health. Had to take a few supplements, and that's it!

Look on the web for Eating Raw to get some tips. Better than just vegan because you get all the nutrients that nature has to offer.

I'm not back in the meat eating mode, and don't regret it or what I went through.

Best wishes for a healthy life!!!

There are some good vegitarian diets around. The biggest problem is getting enough protien in your diet which is partly addressed by being a vegan. This is someone who will eat eggs and drink milk because animals don't die to produce this protein.
The lot of the animals used to produce milk and especially eggs is really worse than slaughter animals. I won't go into detail about this as you can do your own reasearch on the subject. Keep in mind that the animals raised for food will never be because nobody will keep them of pets. Thier life though short is not all that bad compared to animals that live out long lives in say egg producing factories.

Erin,
You will hear much about protein. The amounts of protein that the USDA says we need, are somewhat exaggerated. This is because all of the research they quote, was paid for the the meat and dairy industries. Having said that, protein does matter. You may notice that cows and horses are mountains of protein, and eat nothing but grass. That is where all protein comes from. You can get it directly yourself, by using wheatgrass. Also, look into the raw food movement. You destroy much of the value of food when you cook it. Although I mostly consider myself a vegetarian, I do consume raw cow's milk, and raw, unfertilized chicken eggs. I have my own cows, and chickens, and they are raised organically. I get all my protein, and nobody has to die a horrible death at a slaughterhouse. They are my friends, and are very well taken care of, and they supply me with whole, pure protein. Also, make sure you get your vitamin B12. It is essential for health, and is mostly found in meat. You can use brewer's yeast, or supplements. Have you ever noticed that they never take school kids on field trips to slaughter houses? Wonder why?

Iv seen the peta videos also in the past.Bless you for having a heart. I dont eat meat,,its easy,,there are so many other foods that you can eat but also concider taking a multi vitamin such as "one-a-day".You will need iron as most females need extra anyhow as to not become anemic. Those video's I saw will stay with me for ever,,they were so bad.You know when the dogfood bag says,,will promote heathy muscles,,you know what they do to those dogs just to be able to say that on the bag to promote more sales,,its awful. Now,,I dont eat anything with a face.

Well try to cut of the meat, maybe little by little or you could always just watch some animal cruelty thing everytime you think about eating meat.

Try finding like really good vegan recipes and get hooked on them and then becoming a vegan will be much easier.

We now have without a doubt received a bunch of vigilantes wandering around Hollywood on the weekends, and i'm no longer certain how excellent of an concept it is. They travel in packs of 12-20, carrying what appears like pepper spray, tasers, and handcuffs; and they all put on the identical polo shirt that says "Guardian Angeles". Part of me thinks it is about time sombody was patrolling the sidewalks, due to the fact that we can not get LAPD out of their cars to any extent further than it takes to write a traffic ticket; but the relaxation of me is certain these humans are going to get themselves shot beautiful quickly. They are correctly looking for predicament, ultimately they may in finding it.

Be warned that most of the stuff on PETA's website is nothing more than propaganda.

I read quite a lot of it once, and most of goVeg, and almost none of it is true; or at the very best it's exaggerated to an extreme.
