The genital inflammation caused by trichomoniasis can increase a woman's susceptibility to HIV infection if she is exposed to the virus. Having trichomoniasis may increase the chance that an HIV-infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s). Pregnant women with trichomoniasis may have babies who are born early or with low birth weight (less than five pounds).
Most men with trichomoniasis do not have signs or symptoms; however, some men may temporarily have an irritation inside the penis, mild discharge, or slight burning after urination or ejaculation.
Some women have signs or symptoms of infection which include a frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge with a strong odor. The infection also may cause discomfort during intercourse and urination, as well as irritation and itching of the female genital area. In rare cases, lower abdominal pain can occur. Symptoms usually appear in women within 5 to 28 days of exposure.

The little trichmonads are sooo much fun to watch under the microscope! They dance and twirl and have little flagella. Way cool. Yeast just sits there. booorrrinng. Anyway, I suspect that having an infection of trich must be miserable with the way they wiggle around on the slide! Itchy? I suspect that it is very important to get treated but ALSO make sure your sexual partner is treated as well. You can be reinfected with this organism. For some reason it causes more problems for women than men. Isn't that the way it always is? so not fair.

Trichomoniasis, sometimes referred to as "trich," is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that affects 2 to 3 million Americans yearly. It is caused by a single-celled protozoan parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Trichomoniasis is primarily an infection of the urogenital tract; the urethra is the most common site of infection in man, and the vagina is the most common site of infection in women.
Research has shown a link between trichomoniasis and two serious sequelae. Data suggest that trichomoniasis is associated with increased risk of transmission of HIV and may cause a woman to deliver a low-birth-weight or premature infant. Additional research is needed to fully explore these relationships.

Serious enough to go to the doctor. Trichomoniasis (trick-oh-mo-NEYE-ah-sis) is an STD which causes vaginal infections in women. It can be carried by men, but usually has no symptoms. Trichomoniasis is produced by a microscopic, one-cell parasite known as Trichomonas vaginalis. It's most often spread through vaginal intercourse and can be cured with antimicrobial drugs.

it is serious... and can cause other problems.. if I am correct it is a sexually transmitted disease but not like chlamydia or gonorrhea.... I believer trich is someone more closely related to a bacterium infection. Not so much as being sexually transmitted but more so gotten from sex. Does that make sense> Like you can get bacteria infections from douche, not showering after sex.. stuff like that...I believe trich falls in that category...
Do an online search of that.. you will come up with some more detailed info than you can get from answers... Hoped mine help though

luckily for you, this one is cureable, go to your nearest planned parenthood, it is confidential, and they should have the antibiotic that you need on hand...treat it now before it gets worse, you also need to let any partners that youve had in the last 6 months know(maybe youve had it for a while without even knowing). let this be a lesson to you, at least this one is curable, but most arent...

Go to www.webmd.com and you'll find out probably more than you wanted to know. You will always find a search for information if you check your spelling first - trichinosis.
