Wow so young, you have quite a journey ahead of you, the amount of information you need is beyond the limits of my ability to type. Make sure you see an endocrinologist, he will have nutritionist and other specialist you will need. Be thankful that you found out early, but the treatment and testing and the whole ball of wax will be very difficult till the kid gets older.
I'm not a doctor, but do not get overly upset about failing to "do your job" during the first few months. Any treatment will be good but 3 yrs of strict control might actually be harder to do, maybe not though. Surely baby will survive till able to talk and then treatment will be much easier.
Please see Endocrinologist and don't take information too seriously from this board. Someone will tell you about all the home remedies, there are none. Good Luck

Wow - I'd never heard of a child so young having diabetes. It's good there are so many studies and manageable medicines to control it. Hopefully you have joined a support group because there will probably be many trips to doctors and deciding to get the pump - and if so what school are equip in dealing with kids with pumps in case the tube deconnects while the child is playing. Good luck and hopefully technology will continue to move along and things will be better as your child grows.

No, but I've heard of babies being put on insulin pumps for better blood sugar control. Good luck.
Check out this real patient story:
