Many people who lose weight do have a drop in their blood pressure, but not all. Some forms of hypertension are related to other issues (genetics is one) such as medical conditions. It never hurts to try to lose weight and at least take one contributing factor out of the equation. A second opinion is always an option, but tell your dad to lose the weight first, monitor his blood pressure and if it goes down, I would highly recommend another doctor's opinion. WARNING!! Do not stop taking BP meds without your physicians knowledge!! The results could be devastating. Hope this helps

Yes there is a connection between weight and blood pressure. I take 4 medicines for blood pressure. I am about 50 pounds over weight also. Weight isn't the only reason for high blood pressure, but overweight could make it worse.

I think your doctor is wrong. For every pound of fat, there are 3/4 of a mile of cappilaries that the heart must pump the blood through which means the heart has to work much harder. If he lost some weight, he would decrease his diastolic and systolic blood pressure. He might want to change doctors. It could be that he has something that makes him have high blood pressure other than weight which may be what the doctor is thinking of but to my knowledge, loosing weight will not hurt him.

Weight itself CAN drop blood pressure. But cardiovascular development WILL drop blood pressure. It is a question of how much....usually doctors will say start with diet and exercise, if it is too high or the two are not working enough, meds are perscribed.
Just get 2nd opinion from a doc

As with weight benefit customarily a upward thrust in blood stress happens throughout being pregnant. think of roughly it, your heart is pumping around lots greater blood quantity than it grew to become into earlier. I truthfully have been informed to stay faraway from severe sodium ingredients to maintain my blood stress down this time, and it labored. First pregnancies could have greater warning signs than consecutive pregnancies. This time I truthfully have not had the water weight benefit, the severe blood stress, and the drastic weight benefit I had the 1st. in simple terms shop remembering it is going to all artwork out in some unspecified time sooner or later as a results of fact there is in elementary terms a undeniable quantity of time your infant must be interior your physique (hence the term predicted Date of Confinement). losing weight is a good idea, I know also that some thin people have high blood pressure, so weight is not the only contributing factor. lower salt compsumption helps, including processed foods that have alot of sodium.

No, there isn't any corellation between body size and hypertension. I was 278lbs and my Bp was text book nortmal 120/80. I have since lost over 60lbs and my Bp is still the same.
There are various causes of hypertention and some are genetic. Go to:-

certainly yes, both r related. luk, for us layperson it works like this:
the heart, which is of the size of our fist, supplies pure blood to the whole body. so, more the weight more blood is to be circulated. this stresses the heart to a great extent and the blood pressure increases immediately.
so it is a must to reduce body weight. go ahead right now

i pretty sure there is a connection - my dad is the same and his doctor will probably never take him of b.p. meds- i'd have him get a second opinion but most doctors are reluctant to change meds once you are on them , however maybe he can lower the dose
