I recently saw a video on Krafts genetically modified foods and to think that they don't even know the real health risk to what they are putting in their product is very disturbing to me. since then i refuse to buy their products. I was woindering how you felt about this issue!

as for public distrust... yes and with good reason! saccharin, aspartame,etc...what seems to be so wrong with natural wholesome foods.
if something isn't broke and your trying to fix it there is only monetary gain to blame!

I tried not to eat genetically modified food. Tell them to stop selling genetically modified food. I like my food organic and natural.

There is no real risk in consuming genetically modified foods; the idea that a genetic modification could go astray and cause something to go seriously wrong in your body is extremely unlikely.
The fear of genetic engineering is not well-founded on anything other than fear of the unknown, and public distrust is slowing down progress in this area.
Genetically modified food can bring many benefits; the lab I'm with is working on developing plants that are drought and salt-resistant. This kind of technology will be sold to companies, but only because its the only way we can get funding. If people weren't so paranoid maybe we could actually get government funding and put such knowledge to good use, such as feeding hungry people around the world, in places where its impossible to grow your "natural wholesome food". If fact, many modified food now don't need to be constantly sprayed with pesticides, which makes it safer. Corporate abuse of this technology is a product of the distrust that you yourself are perpetuating.
I have never seen a study proving the dangers of genetically modified food. Ever. Things like sacharrine and the like have always been in foods (and this is Kraft you're talking about, seriously, can you expect better). It doesn't make any difference how these ingredients are obtained.
If you still think its dangerous, don't eat it; but your fear is irrational and unfounded, and you should know that.

Perfectly fine. Look beyond the video to the source of the video. Who is behind the video and what can they gain. So much of what people are are afraid of, relating to food, is misinformation passed on as urban legend or even worse generated by those with something to gain. A lot of time and effort goes into improving food, genetically modified or other, in order to keep food supplies up. If corn is modified to be disease resistant or to be more productive per acre, isn't this a good thing? You have increased output with less requirement for water, pesticides, herbicides, and fuel. Same with any other modification. Yes, some company stands to make a profit, but in the end it allows a better product to be produced with less land and resources.
As for genetic modification, we have been doing this since we started agriculture, it is just taken to a different level now. Almost all of our livestock in no way resembles what their wild ancestors were like. Selective breeding is genetic modification, only on a slower level.
Get all of the facts, not just some liberal wack job video.

I am a scientist who makes genetically engineered crops. I have read many of the vast number of reports on the safety of GM food. I think you should feel confident that GM food is as safe as or safer than conventional or organic products.
There seems to be a rather paranoid shift in society's feelings toward technology. Many people wish for a return to some fantasy past when everything was 'natural' and possessed mystical powers of health and healing. You only need to go back 100 years and look at peoples life expectancy and the incidence of disease to realize that technology has made the world a much safer and healthier place. Of course the crops we eat today (even organic) are so vastly different to their natural ancestors that you would hardly make the connection. For example, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale and kohlrabi all belong to the same species, Brassica oleracea. If you want to eat 'natural' foods you better go live in the forest and eat wild mushrooms and berries. Nothing else you eat is natural.

I think that the health risks of GMOs may be hard to ascertain- I personally am still undecided. However, from an agricultural perspective many of the GMOs are being developed by huge corporations like Monsanto. Products like "round-up ready" corn or soy are just perpetuating corporate domination of our food. They sell farmers the seeds and from what grows, farmers cannot save seed to plant. The seeds are infertile and will not grow. It's all about profit! As for most of the corn & soy GMOs, we're not eating most of them directly. They're being fed to animals and also put into lower quality higher processed foods like junk food, corn syrup, etc. GMOs hurt farmers, put us at risk for crop disasters (since all plants are genetically identical- think Irish potato famine), fuel corporate control of food, create further dependence on pesticides, and possibly are bad for us. There are enough reasons not to eat them even if health concerns are ify.

i will do the cloned hamburger, yet i'm not likely any the place close to a genetically changed steak. i'm happy i don't fairly like corn or soybeans, yet those issues must be in any element in this sort of corn syrup and soy bean oil.

The risk is there, however, its not an established nor proven risk.
If you think thetr are a risk, avoid it.
For me, since i have the option, i avoid it.
