If you have diabetes please take it seriously. One of my clients has D and still eats cakes and pies and donuts....I keep telling her and warning her. Even told her how my grandmother with D had blood clots and had to have a leg amputated and then was going to have an arm amputated and then another leg, but she died before the first arm was taken.

Check all labels for sugar content. Apple juice and other juices have a higher concentration of sugar because fruit has natural sugar but juices have it in higher concentration. Also, diet sodas are not good because they actually trick your body into thinking it has sugar and it reacts.

The best diet for anyone is the diet of a Diabetic. So eat healthy food for all your choices and go easy on the fat too. You can pretty much eat as much vegetables if you want but if you use salad dressing, check the content. Also for other stuff, don't overeat...too much can cause a higher blood sugar reading.

I agree with Michelle about diabetics eating ANYTHING. Seriously. I have had diabetes for seven years, and the only things I don't eat are foods I don't like, or foods i'm allergic to. However, a reasonable diet will help you maintain your blood sugars better. I am not a good example of a reasonable diet (I have half a can of frosting and a plastic spoon under my bed waiting for me...), but think "health food". Foods of color. Lean meat and veggies. Complex carbohydrates. Water. And, an occasional indulgence. Talk to your doctor/dietician to get more help as to what proportions you should go for, but try to eat reasonably. You and your family will be healthier and feel better if you're all eating good food.

Tailoring food intake to a diabetic's needs is very tricky, and a professional nutritionist is your best bet.
One of the answers you received suggested a whole menu for you, and I saw a lot of things in the menu that I, as a diabetic, would avoid. I found the suggested menu too rich in charbohydrates. (foods that get transformed into sugars in the body) You should avoid charbohydrates as much as possible. the carbs suggested in the menu (potato, rice, bread, cereal, pasta) become sugars in the body. Pineapple and corn should be avoided because of the huge amounts of natural sugars, and the suggestion of "lite" mayonnaise is also misguided as regular mayonnaise contains less sugar.
The other thing that must be mentioned is that it's not only what is eaten, but the quantities taken in that needs to be regulated.
As I mentioned earlier it is a very complex issue, and you should get help from a nutritionist to sort things out.

There are no diabetes foods. You must eat right and balance your diet. Watch your carb intake, take your medication as directed. You can find cookbooks and a food pyramid at the American Diabetes Association website. Check it out I think you'll find it very interesting and informative.

You need to sit down with a Diabetic educator or at least a Nutritionist.

Diabetics CAN eat anything....it is about watching carb intake.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.

And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.
