It seems as if brit dishes almost vanished in the past 20years, with everyone eating european foods. Are there any that don't get cooked enough, i'm thinking tjings like lancashire hotpot etc.. (blackberry and apple crumble is one of my favourites)

Offkey: without olive oil you may think brit dishes are inferior to european. But for deserts also try a trifle or banoffee pie. I'm sorry can't think of any mains courses, thats why i asked the question!

Dishes that were popular but seem to have disappeared from the British menu are things like:
Tripe and Onions
Liver and Bacon
Steak and Oyster pie
Cabbage and Bacon
Mackerel cooked in various ways
Herrings potted, or fried in Oatmeal
Chitterlings
Rabbit pie
Mutton Hams
Devilled kidneys
Boiled tongue with parsley sauce
Apple Charlotte
Junket
Queen of Puddings
Sussex or Hydropathic (Summer) pudding
and lots lots more.

My menu. (Not necessarily for this hot period)
Choose from:
Home made Scotch broth.
Home cured smoked salmon.
Bangers 'n mash (Sausages and mashed potato with onion gravy)
Mince 'n tatties.
Bubble and squeak.
Home made steak pie.
A Scotch (Jock) Pie.
A home made sausage roll with a good pork minced meat filling.
Haggis in at least 10 different ways.
Roll mop herrings.
A good old fashioned mixed grill - Steak, lamb chop, sausage, black pudding, fruit pudding, tomato, mushrooms, kidney, a small piece of golden brown fried bread and home made chips (fries). If you are a glutton a fried egg can be an extra.
Eve's pudding.
Lemon snow.
Spotted Dick.
Jam Roly Poly.
Apple sponge.
If you are an American reading this, please ask a question if any of the dishes are 'foreign' to you.
What most appeals to you, from the above menu?

I'm French and haven't tried much cos they always serve the same. But I love the Sunday Roast (when it's well done):
Yorkshire pudding and GRAVY... miam miam! And then potatoes when they add the sauce from the meat... My ex-boyfriend's mum made that once, it was delicious! Never had better potatoes. And the meat. Not crazy about the veggies, though (a bit tasteless...).
I love apple crumble, WITHOUT cinnamon, though. They always put cinnamon, now! But blackberry and apple crumble sounds REALLY good!
Can you tell me other dishes I should try?

Ohhhhh, Fisherman's pie is so underrated. With so many people to fussy about food they don't know what they are missing.
Its gotta contain the following.... Cod,Smoked haddock,Plaice & Atlantic Prawns, Topped with Buttery mash potato & Cheddar cheese.
People dont eat enough from the sea. It is beautifull and good for you, Kids are not educated on the importance of eating good healthy fresh ingreadients and prefer a daily intake of Junk, Which parents seem happy to allow.
Sorry that last bit wasnt anything to do with your question but I feel so strongly about it that I had to put it in, after describing my beloved fishermans pie.
Captmhunt..??? What are you on about???? I think you need to open you eyes, You processed food junkie.!!

There is never anything better than fresh scones with devonshire clotted cream, home made raspberry/strawberry jam. with a big mug of tea and a log fire or a rug in the garden, bliss.
Alternativly, I am a chef and I give you this recipie which my mother gave me. It is scottich Kedgeree. Kedgeree originates from India but basically we came back from india and invented it thinking we were pretty clever.
1 fillets of scottish wild salmon
2 hard boiled eggs
1 tbs oil/butter
1 tsp turmeric
1 pinch ground cumin
1 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper
1 cup boiled cooked rice
1 tsp chopped curley parsley
mix the lot! yum

Try Dover sole, with peas and potatoes. Slice of lemon for garnish and squeezing. Chopped parsley on the spuds of course (these can be boiled new ones or mashed floury ones). XXX

Don't be silly... the Brits don't HAVE any dishes because there is no such thing as British Cuisine... In fact, I don't think I have ever seen the words "British" and "Dishes" used in the same sentance.
