I don't think that they all look sick and unhealthy but the ones that do are probably suffering from a lack of protein. Unfortunately, it can be hard to get enough protein - unless you put some effort forth - on a vegan diet. People need to eat it from sources like tofu, nuts, seeds, beans, and peas. Dark leafy greens would provide some protein too. If someone goes out and tries to order a vegan meal somewhere, they will probably get something like a salad and potatoes, or maybe some kind of mushroom sandwich. There is really not a lot of protein in those foods.

One thing I think is sad is that a lot of sources say that you don't have to worry about getting enough protein when you are a vegan, that all foods have plenty of protein. I know from firsthand experience that you do have to try to get your protein. I was a vegan for a while and suffered a lot both emotionally and physically from the lack of protein. It took me 2 years to figure out the problem. I've seen friends get sick from lack of protein too.

Why are the meat eaters so obese and unhealthy by the time they hit 40? Why are they unable to stop eating meat to lower their cholesterol? Why does heart disease kill as more Americans in a day as 9/11? How many vegans have you actually met? Why do you care how they look? Who's killing your dinner for you?

Well, first of all, "most" don't. Perhaps you've met a lot who do.

A lot of vegans don't balance the lack of protein from meat with protein from other sources; they just stop eating meat. Being vegan is a full-time job.

Despite the fact that they pay careful attention to make sure they get all the vitamins and nutrients they need, some nutrients can only be properly absorbed by the body in the presence of others. Usually they have to be paired with a fat of some sort. Here's some good links:
