Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. Frequent small meals is required to keep it under control. It isn't something to mess around with as it can flip over into diabetes at some point. If you don't eat the small meals, you will find yourself throwing up because your sugar has gotten too low. Eating will make that stop. In fact, my doctor told me that if eating makes you feel better, it is almost always hypoglycemia. I had it for a number of years. Now it is trying to change into diabetes, but we are working really hard on it hoping to prevent diabetes. My mother was diabetic.

The hypoglycemia's of today are the diabetics of tomorrow.
Hypoglycemia is a medical term meaning low blood sugar, I am a diabetic and I will do just about anything to not have a low! When I was young I dropped some acid. it is the very same feeling as a low. I hate it. It takes about 3-5 hours for me to come out of a low. I can check my blood sugar at about 70 after I take some glucose in. It was probable in the low 40's (my Normal blood sugar is between 90-120)
My adult son, he is not a diabetic but does experience these low blood sugars that make him cranky and tired if he does not eat right. Fast foods seem to affect him very badly.

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. It occurs when the level of sugar, or glucose, in the blood drops too low to fuel the body.

Hypoglycemia is not a disease but a condition that results from a variety of causes. The main types of hypoglycemia are:

Fasting low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This type occurs when you have not eaten for many hours, such as overnight. It is frequently associated with having too much insulin in the blood, some medications, alcohol use, hereditary problems with the metabolizing of carbohydrates, and other health conditions.
Nonfasting low blood sugar (also called reactive or postprandial hypoglycemia). This type develops within 3 to 4 hours after eating. It can be caused by hereditary enzyme deficiencies such as galactosemia or by surgery to remove all or part of the stomach. Sometimes the cause is unknown. Nonfasting hypoglycemia within 1 to 2 hours after a meal (alimentary hypoglycemia) can occur if stomach contents empty into the intestines too rapidly.

It's a pancreatic dysfunction. Your body fails to properly control blood sugar, so it can drift too low if you haven't eaten for a while. One of the main causes is diabetes, but certain people who are not diabetic have hypoglycemia as well.

Usually, if it's not diabetes, it can be controlled with diet and exercise. If it is diabetes, you'll have to start monitoring your blood sugar and perhaps taking insulin. There's more information at the Merck Manual of Medical Information below.

when a diabetic usually has low blood sugar level, too much insulin in their system, you need glucose not sugar to pump it back up again because glucose is faster acting then sugar. im diabetic aswell and hate having low sugar levels i feel like crap!! lol but always a good time to have lollies and soft drink which i can't usually eat and drink so i suppose there is kinda one plus side. but going low can cause you to go into a coma even death its pretty scary going low
