Ok here is the story. I have a freind who is my best friend I live with him, but we are not together. We do not have sex and we never have. I just found out that he has a std. Well I am the one who cleans his bathroom. I have never thought to be careful with his toilit or anything because of how close we are. Also, there was a day when I went to the bathroom and some of the water with some pee splashed on me. I whiped it off right away, I was really tired and did not relize it had not been flushed. Also, there have been times when we have shred towels. I think I may be at risk too. Since I have moved in with him I have goten 2 urinary tract infections. I am scared. Should I be?

Urinary Tract infections are caused by many things,go get tested and if you dont have a STD I think your safe.Viruses and deases dont survive outside too long. But if your worried get checked out.And if your going to continue to live with this man make him learn to clean up after himself in the bathroom,Tell Him why.If he becomes mad or offended ,well its time to move as he obviously cares more about himself than your friendship.

Getting two urinary tract infections could just be a weird coincidence. Do you get them a lot?

The ONLY STD you could possible catch from him by using the toilet after him would be pubic lice (crabs) and even this is REALLY rare. Pubic lice can also live in clothing and bedding.

Scabies (although it is not sexually transmitted) can be passed through close contact or through sleeping in bedding or wearing clothes that are infested. Rarely, holding or shaking hands can transmit scabies.

Those two are really the only "STDs" you can get through sharing a bathroom or toilet with him.

I have had genital herpes and HPV for over 5 years now. I shared a bathroom those whole 5 years with my two younger brothers and they NEVER got either of the STDs I have from me.

no you can't get anything from a toilet , towel , clothing , the virus cannot live without a host .
just don't do him and you will be good , as for your urinary tract infections you should see a doctor , and then you can double check what I've said to you about STDs and then you will know I am right and give me 10 points :0)

Never---under any circumstances--should you share a towel with someone. That moisture is enough to carrry and transmit infections. Dont listen to that silly response who told you that you can not catch anything from towels--thats ridiculous...Be very careful--use gloves when cleaning the bathroom at all times; as far as the toilet thing--not sure.

urinary tract infections usually occur due to either:
1.holding your urine too long before going to the bathroom (it gives bacteria time to colonize in your bladder)
2.diabetes (bacteria just love the sugar found in diabetic urine)
3.if you're having sexual intercourse, be sure to empty your bladder immediately before and after sex. then drink a tall glass of water afterwards.
