Let me just say I’m a newly Diagnosed Diabetic “Hyperglycemic” Its been a real pain getting info with this but now I have meetings set up with Diabetes specialists, and nutritionists. It was olso recommended that I get rid of my physician “who is not a full doctor just a P.A.C.” and switch to an Endocrinologist. I was just put on insulin a few days ago. I wont even get into the whole story of the headaches I have been dealing with trying to find info for myself as well as help. Basically now that the “first stages” of bringing my blood sugar down are almost intact would it benefit me now to switch to a endocrinologist?

Yes, go to an endocrinologist! They are specialists in diabetes. Going to a PAC is a waste of time unless you have a cold or a blister. They are not even close to being as well educated as a doctor is, which is why they are not doctors.

Good luck to you, and take care of yourself. I'm sorry you have diabetes.

An endocrinologist is a specialist and will have more knowlege about diabetes than your regular doctor.
Conversely, a regular doctor will better treat an eye infection than an endocrinologist.
I have both and you should too.
Diabetes is a truly nasty disease and you should try to get the best resources possible on your side.
I'm not sure how much info you have so i'm editing my response to warn you to ignore the advice offered by GEORGIE G. His advice to consume chocolate and drink apple juice will only worsen your high blood sugar.

Definately go to an Endocrinologist. They specialize in diabetes and have sooooo much more knowledge than regular famliy type docs. I started with my family physician (whom I like very much), but after 1 month my sugar wasn't down and I still felt like crud, so I switched. The Endocrinologist switched my meds and had my sugar down to normal WITHIN DAYS. I started feeling much better too. As time has progressed, my meds have needed to be tweaked. I'm certain my family dr. would not have the knowledge to fine tune my regimin like the Endocrinologist has done. It's a very complex disease and needs to be CONTROLLED. He/She will also know exactly which tests to run and how often, and they will closely monitor your results to make sure you are staiying in control. They will also have information and/or classes on nutrition that you can plug into. In my opinion, its a waste of time and risk to your health to postpone getting under the care of a good Endocrinologist.

My son is diabetic. I have found that the Endocrinologist is more in touch with the newer products and methods of treating Diabetes. Our regular physician stays in touch with the Endo. so she knows exactly what we are doing so when my son comes in with an illness she knows what is going on with his diabetes. I personally recomend going to an Endo. over a doctor for this, there are so many terrible side effects if you dont get it under control early. Here are some websites that might help with your decision:
www.diabetes.org
www.cdc.gov/diabetes
www.endocrineweb.com/whatisendo.html
www.endocrinologist.com/index.html
I wish you the best. I know you will make the right choice.
Blessed be.

well, if you have been unstable in the past with blood sugars it wouldnt hurt to visit an endocrinologist because they are EXTREMELY familiar with the workings of diabetes and often know of treatments for diabetes that family practitioners arent sure of. they are walking encyclopedias of information and experience on diabetes, so they really can be beneficial. because you have had issues finding the right doses of insulin in the past and looks like you could be what we refer to in the medical field as a 'brittle' diabetic (meaning you have problems keeping your blood sugars normal), should you ever need more help in the future, the endocrinologist is best suited to handle that. if you are ever in the hospital, lets say, your sugars may start plummeting or rising like crazy as a result of stress, illness ,etc...and he or she could easily fix that, probably more quickly than a family practitioner, although your family practitioner is still very well educated about diabetes. my grandfather is a major diabetic and he switched from a family doctor to a endocrinologist and he is just more comfortable and feels more sure of his treatments with a specialist. it is your call :)

who diagnosed your diabetes and got you in contact with the other specialists? it sounds to me that you have already found a new doctor with whom you have confidence and it is probably his/her recommendation that you don't waste time with the not a full doctor doctor, so since you have followed this new doctors recommendations with the nutritionist and diabetes specialist why would you not see the endocrinologist? think you already have your answer. good luck with everything!
