I am SURE this got a lot people's attention!!
I am on oxygen 24/7. One of my oxygen people told me the best thing to use inside your nose (when it becomes dry from the oxygen) is KY jelly. Have you ever heard of that?

On the box it says DO NOT use in your eyes or ears. And then it goes into the sexual aspect which all of you were thinking. I know all of you were saying, "sex in the nose? This woman is clearly not right." I take that back, some of you WOULD say, O.K.!!!!!

SO, has anyone heard of this? I would like to try it. But I want to know someone else has first OR what do you use?

Absolutely!! KY jelly is a water-based skin lubricant that has many more uses than just sexual.

It is also safer to use with your oxygen than petroleum jelly or any other oil-based lubricant, because it won't react with the pure oxygen environment.

If you are embarrassed to pull out a huge tube of "lube" out in public, squeeze some into a tiny Tupperware container and store with your oxygen bag when you go out. No one will know what it is but you!

Buy an over the counter "plain saline nasal spray" and use that. KY Jelly is a lubricant and the label says it all. Vaseline is petroleum based and should not be used on mucus membranes, such as the inside of nose.

Yes, it it safe to use in your nose. My mom was on oxygen for quite some time and the registered nurse from the home health agency told her to use it as the oxygen was very drying to the nose. So she purchased some and it truly does work. The nurse also said not to use petroleum based products, including Chap Stick, while on oxygen as it is a chance of catching on fire.

Martina; you are safe to use KY in your nose. My sis is a nurse, and an ex hospice nurse. She recommends KY before Vaseline, because petroleum products are bad for the body and even has a drying effect. It clogs the pores and does not allow skin to breathe properly, KY does. So, knock yourself out, Martina. I wish you the best of luck.

Absolutely KY !!!!! dont use vaseline it is petroleum based and it can ignite to oxygen . KY is water soluble and safer or you can make your own saline solution or buy it to help keep your nose dry. Call your oxygen supply company and ask for humidification (water bottle that connects to a concentrator) this should help

It actually makes good sense. It is a lubricant, if it is safe for sex, then it should also be safe for your nose. Obviously you do not want to put an oil based substance in your eyes which is the cause for the warning. If that works, you may also be able to use Astroglide or another water based lubricant. If you have sensitive skin, it may be a little better for you.

tell that "oxygen person" to give you a humidifier with your oxygen therapy, to keep your airways hydrated. never heard of KY jelly used inside the nose -- that only covers the opening, but not the whole nasal passage. or if you are just worrying about the discomfort of using a nasal cannula, then i guess it would be ok.

I would think it would be safe for use on your nose, but I have heard of many people using petroleum jelly too. I use to use a product that was designed for irritation of the nostrils, but I regretfully can not recall what it was named. Check with your pharmacy for a product such as the one I have described.

And just for your peace of mind and mine, I didn't take it in a dirty way. ;-)
