If you smoke quit. If you drink heavy cut-it out.
While high triglycerides are indicative of heart disease risk, high cholesterol is NOT! A fasting blood glucose level over 89 is also not good. Limit your carbs to 75 to 100 grams a day. Yes. Low-carb.
Stay away from polyunsaturated oils for cooking. Use coconut oil instead. Eat blueberries, strawberries and almonds. Heart healthy foods. Take aged garlic supplements. If you can find it, unsweetened dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants like the other things I mentioned. But be sure to avoid the alkalized ones. Steer clear of trans fat... this is why you need to cook your own food. Don't worry about the fat in animal food. We have been lied to for 40 years. Its the sugar and the starch that is killing us, not fat from animals.
I suggest you goggle this under exact phrase:
"Why the Low-Fat Diet is Stupid and Potentially Dangerous"
You need to buy the book from the above author "The Great Cholesterol Con" it may very well save your life.

216 is a little high. Time to start working on a better lifestyle so it can come down. and guarantee better health for the long run. It doesn't have to be expensive, but you may have to relax and open up to new changes. Try cutting down on dairy products and red meat. Experiment with good tasting recipes using small amounts of meat with more vegies. Find fruits that you like by having an open mind when you go tasting. Developing a taste for soy products will serve you well and they are inexpensive. You don't have to go to an expensive gym for exercise but you need to make a time regularly for a brisk walk or jog or yogic work out.....There are books that can teach you how or take some classes at a local college. Money does not have to be the answer for good health habits.

I have some very good free of cost suggestions and you must follow it genuinely.
1. Do exercise regularly, like walking, jogging ,swiming and other aerobic exercise which involves oxygen intake into the blood.
2. Yoga and Pranayam is very much helpful and there is guaranty you will get rid of it within short time.(for pranayam See the swami Randev's programme on astha chennel)
3.Reduce taking milk products and milk itself as it contains fat.
4.Always take green vegetables more, fruits and juice.
5.You can eat whole soyabeans after cooking or roasting as it contains vital aminoacids and full of protiens, this will help you in reducing bad cholesterol and very effective.
6.eat carrots, cucumber , and use sunflower or olive or ground nut oil, don't use cotton seed oil or any other oil for cooking.Don't eat fried food.
7.Reduce stress and tension from your mind, better read good book .
If you follow these you will never need anykind of medicines in your life. Ihope you will follow it and wish you the best health.

Cut out all dairy products, meat, junk food, and crackers. Avoid all partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (aka trans fats), because it raises your bad cholesterol and lowers your good cholesterol.
Eat more vegetables, rice, pasta with tomato sauce, couscous, fruit, potatoes, olive oil, sardines, fish.
Note: This is not a diet for losing weight, but for lowering your cholesterol, so it's OK to have fats. For example, olive oil is high in fat and the good cholesterol.

I had the same problem, so my father who also had the same problem give me this recipe It may seem strange for you, but it works: Boil a good quantity of parsley into more or less a litre of water and put it in the fridge just to be cold, then whenever you are thirsty, drink it. There is no limit you can drink it the times you want. It is a simple, natural and harmless remedy. It really works! ...and it is tasteless.

I am surprised that he did not but you on a medication. Stay away from fried foods, cheese. Eat more healthier choices like fresh fruit and vegetables. Check the contents of the saturated fats in everything you eat and the trans fat content.
