I am 42 yrs old and had a heart cath last October. You will do fine. They told me in the cath lab to look at it like this. You will be in the safest place you can possibly be if anything undesireable happens. Better to be in the cath lab than to be out in Bum ****** Egypt and have a heart attac or horrible chest pain and have to be brought in on an emergent basis. Now days everything is so advanced, you will do fine.
PS: I am female and a nurse. I also happen to be a heart patient.

1.Don't worry
2.It will be painless
3.The only pain you'll feel is when they inject local anesthetic
4.It is usually done thru your upper leg(groin), sometimes through the wrist artery (radial)
5.If you are very jittery, they might give you a shot of midazolam (Versed), and you won't remember a thing.
6.If you are very, very worried about it and want an alternative, ask your physician about a CT angiogram, its a relatively new test and might give the same information

I have assisted in a heart catherisation and watched MANY in theatre.
They insert the probe through a SMALL cut in your groin, into your femoral vein. You will probably feel a bit uncomfortable, but they shoud provide you with adequate relaxants.
Hope everything goes well!

I'm a x-ray tech and have never met a patient that had a completely unpleasant experience having that done. If they offer a drug called Versed your home free, it's short term and you don't remember a thing.I'm have had multiple cervical spine steroid injections so it's MY favorite drug...lol

the heart catherization isn't what you need to worry about.
it is your lifestyle that you should change. time for a new diet and exercise regime.....life is going to be different now. get healthy and get into shape.
