You CAN NOT get them from a toilet, so please do NOT listen to the first girl. The ONLY STD you can get from a toilet seat is pubic lice (crabs) and even this is REALLY rare.

But to answer your question...yes you can get herpes with out any sexual contact.

Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) can be spread by just simply being kissed by someone who has the virus. You can even get it from sharing chap stick or lipstick with someone who has the virus.

Genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) is usually spread by sexual contact. You can get genital herpes from having sex with someone who has the virus and by skin to skin contact (like rubbing genital areas together). You can also get it from receiving oral sex from someone who has cold sores. In fact, 30% of people with genital herpes got it from cold sores.

A baby can also be born with herpes if the mother has it. The baby will contract it when it is coming through the birth canal of the mother. A C-section is usually performed on the mother if she is having an outbreak to prevent the baby from getting the virus. It is really rare for herpes to be transmitted this way. I have even read that it is about a 1% chance the baby will be born with herpes if the mother has it.

Actually herpes cant live long out side a human host on objects such as toilet seats and so on ,
as far as spreading it all over your own self .. my doctor told me that is not possible , the strain of herpes you get will be upper body (mouth /etc )or lower body (mainly genitals ) this lays dormant in your spine after the initial infected site (where you may get blister(s).
then when you get a cold or altot of stress you can get an out brake where ever you strain is ..
upper or lower .. does not have to be the infected site it can just pop up wherever it wants , average cases it will be mouth or genitals .

wheres allie ? she's better at explaining these things ..

if you go touching someones water herpes blister and get the juices on you dont go rubbing it on you ok ? you do that you could risk it , but it wont live long outside a host .. so thats why people got to be all realy rubbing together (thighs /groins/kissing ) to spread it

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

Yes

Herpes is spread through direct contact. So, a genital herpes infection will stay in the area it originated unless transferred elsewhere via direct contact or skin-to-skin transference. Herpes won't just show up on its own somewhere else on the body. Because herpes is spread through direct contact, it is important to avoid contact with infected areas. If a herpes infection is not localized, further complications may occur. For instance, a Herpes infection in the eyes can lead to severe complications, including blindness.

As long as there is skin to skin contact the infection can be spread.
