I have had a problem with a sore and irritated throat for some time now, a constant tickling, and trying to clear my throat to no avail. I choke on soft foods, hsrd , and liquids when in a certain position, like it continuously goes down the wrong pipe, and will cough for quite some time. My voice is becoming hoarse, some difficulty swallowing , and continually cough when sleeping, or under sedation. The coughing will actually keep me up all night. I feel like a cat with a fur ball in my throat. Have not yet been to ENT specialist, plan on going but assume they will say nothing is wrong. I am a mouth breather, still have my tonsils, and I have to sleep with breathe right strips. Yes I am a smoker, and know that I have to quit. Taking a shower, or in high humidity causes chest pain and difficulty breathing. Cold weather causes me to start a raspy cough when I breathe in cold air, please any advice , opinions on this matter would help me see a doctor,or whether it is necessary. Thank you

You need to see a pulmonary doctor as soon as possible ,you could have asthma or other lung disease such as emphysema I have both asthma and cronic lung disease and these are some of the symptoms. If you have acid reflux that can cause the hoarseness and the coughing at night and difficulty in swallowing may be your esophagus . You must see a doctor!!!!

You should see a doctor. Sounds like you have asthma plus acid reflux disease. Acid reflux is aggravated by smoking and damage the lining of your throat and esophagus. Acid reflux can also cause asthma by backing up in your throat and getting into your lungs. Buy some Prilosec OTC at your local market. Used to be prescription only and it is the best acid inhibitor out there. Double the dosage if you want to get the full original prescription strength into your system.

It sounds like what I have. Environmental allergies, asthma, and copd, {chronic obstructive pulmanary disorder} Quit smoking now. You probably also have sleep apnea. But go to your doc right away to be sure.

the only way to find out what's going on with you is to do tests on you, i'd say neck x-ray (including lateral neck x-ray)
we cannot say that it's cancer or anything else unless tests are done. if doctors are not willing to do tests on you, seek second opinion. a good doctor will always listen to your symptoms and know what tests are needed to find out what you have. if they just guess and tell you you're ok, that's not good.

I had this same feeling for quite some time. I went to the Dr and they told me I had musus in my windpipe. It took about 8 months for it to go away.

You might want to check with your Dr though just to be safe!
