I LOVE morningstar farms veggie dogs but I am trying to cut out my white bread intake and I can't find whole grain hot dog buns around here. Does anyone have any bun-less ways to prepare veggie dogs?

Please: Ideas only, no stupid remarks. I will report inappropriate answers.

Veggie dogs taste just like regular hot dogs. If you cant comprehend the term "Vegetarian"...it means I don't eat meat. I also like to avoid white bread, there very little nutritional value in processed grains.

I've found Quorn brand veggie dogs are a little better if you are eating them without a bun and if they are fried. Also, I've found some whole grain buns by freihoffer at our local stop & shop and Super Walmart also has them. I don't know what bigger food chains are in your area, but give the bigger stores a try.

A veggie hotdog sounds horrific, let alone withouta bun. Not sure why you would even want to approach that food. Here's an idea, by a real hot dog, and get over the white bread bun. It's a hot dog and bun for crying out loud. How harmful can it be?

"Common Sense" Frustrated, I think that you were cut off. You meant to say "Lack of common sense", right?

Try buying a veggie chili and making chili dogs. Use a piece of wheat bread as the 'bun'.

Lay the bread on the plate
Place cooked veggie dog in the center of it
Smother with 1/3-1/2 can of heated 'veggie' chili
Use knife & fork to consume.

I'll even top it with german mustard to give some extra bang. : )

I am trying to get vegetarian. What exactly do you use instead of sausage in veg hot dogs? You could replace buns with arabic pitta bread, which is very thin and low calory.

1. Cut open a hotdog.
2. Take the meat out.
3. Replace the meat with vegetables.
4. Put the hot dog into the microwave for 2 minutes.
5. Eat it.

Check with the bakery at your local supermarket. Often they will bake things for you and not charge more than they would if it was a regular item. Just let them know how many you want and when you will be picking them up. I do this all of the time. My husband will not eat white bread (too wimpy for him). They bake rye rolls, pumpernickel buns, etc. for me.

Well; I've wrapped 'em in lettuce, tortilla's and regular sliced bread. Used 'em to make wienie-beanie casserole, baked them in cornbread, made corndogs out of 'em (and that's just this year). I've made sushi rolls with them before. If you slice them into thin disks and marinate with some olive oil, chili powder and hot sauce they make a pretty convincing pepperoni substitute for pizza (the grandkids prefer my 'roni' to hormel)! I bake 'em with sauerkraut and potatoes.

Hmm, actually I pretty much use 'em just like 'regular' folks use wienies!

Maybe you could make your own whole-grain buns? Its probably no harder than making bread or pizza dough.
