"1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Example: If you weighed 200 pounds you should consume 200 grams of protein daily. " WHAT?? lol. This is terrible advice. The RDA is around 50 grams a day for 150lbs. A little less for women, a little more for men. And obviously more for the more you weigh. It works out to .36 grams of protein for every pound you weigh.
"You cannot get them on a diet free of meat, eggs, and milk. " Um, sure you can. Otherwise there would be no Vegans alive today. lol. But, the question asks about *Vegetarians*, not *Vegans*.
I'd stay away from protein pills. They are a waste of money. Just eat a balanced diet and when you feel like you need some protein, eat a protein bar, some fake 'meat', or some sunflower seeds.

Ha, try power lifting on that veggie diet. Wink. Try some protein powders that are acceptable to your brand of vegetarianism. Every health nut has a theory on how much protein you really need. Pick a number; it is as good as another. Actually if you don't become constipated, you are fine. If you see your feces a bit hard and dark, then cut back a day or two. And for heavens sake, don't forget to eat good fat with the fatty acids so necessary for health, especially the health of your gall bladder. Actually, if you eat your veggies, grains and fruit, without killing the enzymes, and add sufficient protein, you will be healthier than most, and barring an accident or worse, you might outlive your meat eating friends, if you don't get weird with the veggie diet.

It's impossible to NOT get enough protein. This protein thing is a myth, propogated by the meat and dairy industry. Case closed.
However, most people have believed the myth, so let me tell you this, The World Health Organization recommends a min of 4.5% of calories from protein, and there are very few foods that contain less than that. Most fruits and vegetables contain about twice that much or more. SO,,,,,,if you eat a calorie sufficient diet, it's IMPOSSIBLE to not get enough protein.
Why do you think that you need more protein, or that nature would have set it up to make it hard to get all your nutrients? That makes no sense to me.

It depends on gender and weight.
I know that a 125 lb female needs abut 50 grams a day. This can be easily accomplished eating the recommended whole grains, veggies, legumes(beans).
All the advise above is false. Too much protein effects the kidneys.

well, the amount of protein a vegetarian needs is the same amount a meat eater needs. haha!
but the only difference is it's harder for vegetarians to get protein because they don't eat meat. i think there are some pills you can take (assuming you're a vegetarian)
but why would you want to be one anyway? meat is so good!

2 protein pills a day should be sufficient but I will advise you. vegetarians also need Vitamin B-12 supplement because veggie diets are low on that as well and without it you can get really sick

The same amount as everyone else, read this sight and learn. You are supposed to substitue compliment protiens to make whole protiens, beans+rice, soy and rice, peanut butter and grains, stuff like that......read about it, and learn obewon.
pills are rarely ever absorbed into the body, I would try to get all your nutrients from real food.

you need a Dr. or nutritionist to help plan your diet so you can get all your needed amino acids. You cannot get them on a diet free of meat, eggs, and milk. They are basic proteins the body needs.
