I can never understand why people are in a wad about tofu. Look at all these extreme reactions...
Not only is tofu delicious, but it's fairly neutral so it will adjust to whatever dish you are making.
I like to cut firm tofu in slices, score the surfaces and marinate it in soy sauce. You can add freshly grated ginger to that. Then you fry it in hot oil on both sides until it's crispy. YUM.
You can do the same with cubes and add it to a stir fry or whatever else you want to eat protein with.
I adore it in soups as well. Not such a fan of the silken tofu, but the firm tofu rocks. Make sure it's manufactured with the nigari enzyme, which is very good for you. Anything else is synthetic and not so beneficial.

IS or CAN BE ?
big difference for one reason. you throw a slap of warm tofu on a plate, and throw a warm beautiful steak on the table only one of these will be delicious.
Now. say that tofu is prepared correctly- and there are 100's of ways to do it, THEN i'd be ready to say you are totally right.
in it's natural state, tofu is great, but it needs a little help to become "delicious".

My wife is a vegetarian and I do the cooking. To me Tofu is disgusting, I hate its texture. However, being married for fifteen years and being the cook, I have gotten creative at times. My wife's favorite is when I make Tofu Parmigiana. I cut the tofu into rectangular slabs, bread it and bake it in the oven. Then I get out a deep oven tray and layer the tofu with sauce and mozzarella and bake it again. She loves it. I don't eat the stuff though.

I can easily make it though a 1/2 pound a fried tofu in one sitting.
My current favorite is tofu sliced real thin, fried until leathery. Turn heat waaay down and toss in a Tbsp or so of soysauce and a splash of liquid smoke. Dust with nutritonal yeast (the stuff that looks like yellow instant potato flakes). It's fake bacon, tofu style!

Tofu is Everything to ANYBODY. You can use it for all sort of foods. I'm finally making Root Beer Floats tonight with some very soft tofu and Vanilla Extract, some sugar and some maple syrup. All you have to do is blend everything together and freeze!
It's delicious with Rootbeer or pepsi!

I'm not the #1 fan of tofu, no. But I do enjoy it in this recipe.
Hot and Sour Soup
1/4 pound pork or chicken
1 cake bean curd, tofu
3 to 4 Chinese dried mushrooms, soaked
1 pint good chicken stock
1 Tbsp. rice wine or sherry
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp white pepper
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp. corn starch
2 Tbsp. shredded Bamboo shoots
1 egg, beaten
Thinly shred the pork, bean curd and the mushrooms. Bring the stock to a rolling boil, add the pork, bean curd and mushrooms, simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, then add wine, soy sauce, peppers, vinegar and salt. Now blend the corn starch with a little cold water to make a smooth paste, pour into the soup slowly, stirring all the time. Add bamboo shoots and beaten egg in a thin stream, stirring constantly until egg cooks. Serve as soon as the soup thickens.
