A standard STD test, like the HIV test, also does not test for herpes or genital warts. These tests must be requested separately. For herpes testing, request the Western Blot test. It's the most reliable hsv test available. Others have a very high rate of false positives and negatives.

No. You have to specially ask them to be tested for other STDs. Different STDs are tested different ways.
HIV is tested by blood, gonorrhea is tested by a urine test & a swab test, and herpes is usually diagnosed by a physical exam and sometimes a pap smear for a woman depending on her medical history. Herpes can also be diagnosed by a blood test, but I have heard these can be inaccurate, providing a negative result when in fact you do have the virus.
Check out this site for more information about getting tested for STDs:

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.
Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.
