Actually it's estimated that about 67 people out of 10,000 will become infected with HIV after sharing a needle or syringe with someone who is infected with the virus. This is usually drug users though, not a clinic. Clinics have to use sterile needles and syringes when they are tested for HIV. They will usually open up the package right in front of you. Even a good, sterile, piercing shop will open sterile needles and syringes in front of you and even make you sign a slip that you watched them do this.

If she came back negative then chances are she probably is. If she took the test to soon however, it could be a false result. I think the best thing she can do is go back in about 6 months and get tested again. That way, if she did go too soon the last time, this time should show up for sure if she has it or not.

Hello,

That is great that your friend's result her back great that it is negative i'm pleased.

I think that if a reused syringe was used to draw some bllod out the hiv would mix with your friend blood and it would be detected.

If your friend is still paranoid, well i have an idea why she's paranoid ............

................she can have a test after 3 months or if she has some spare money she can have an up to date test where people don't have to wait 3 or 6 months....but that cost money

Take care

It can't be shared. By law all doctors and nurses are obliged to use fresh needles and syringes. They must also open these packets in front of the patients.
Only drug addicts share syringes because they are desperate.......
No the result would not have come out positive because the test requires the patient to have been infected for at least 1 month. sometimes people don't get 'positive' results, even if they are infected, for 6 months. That is why it is important to get tested every 6 months if you think you are at risk.

Syringes are not reused. It is illegal. She should not worry on this account.
