To Start: Puff pastry tartlets topped with roasted mediterranean vegetables and garlic and herb soft cheese.

Main: Sweet lemon chicken strips, soured cream to dip, large green salad, crusty bread.

Desserrt: Home-made chocolate mousse cups.

I'm going for informal, help-yourself kind of food for eight friends. My boyfriend and I will be doing the cooking. I want to know if this menu is any good - please say if you think a course doesn't go or sounds rank or whatever, and give me suggestions on either alternative recipes etc. If you think this is good, how about tips on drinks, table setting etc in order to make this meal a success?!

Thanks!

I think adding a white polenta made with fresh rosemary and gruyere cheese would be a great addition to the main course. To drink, I'd suggest a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, or if you want to go red, do a Pinot Noir or Cotes du Rhone. For your mousse, look for some high quality Belgian chocolate.

Sounds wonderful, especially the pastry tartlets. The best way to serve a dinner like this, even informal, is to use the cloth napkins, funky napkin holders, a wild centerpiece. People love offbeat decorations. Have fun!

I would recommend sparkling apple cider and a light wine offered for beverage choices plus mineral water with slices of lemon and lime. Offer tea and coffee with the dessert. Put fresh flowers and candles (tea lights) on the table. Cloth napkins are a good choice with the place settings and can be washed and reused. The dinner sounds yummy. Please post recipes.

That sounds great. I am sure it will be a hit. You may want to do more Starters... hummus and pita would be awesome with what you are having... you could also do stuffed mushroom's which is always a hit.
