vegetarianism is great if you eat correctly to good full and complete protiens some examples are a salad with nuts on it pb&j rice and beans and there are also a lot of recipes that you can try out at allrecipes.com if you are into cooking but be careful I was a vegetarian for 10 years (I now eat pretty much all meat except red meat) when you decide to eat meat again you must start out slowly your body looses the enzymes to digest the meat and you end up getting a lot of upset stomaches and indigestion because your body can't break down the protiens

The key is to get all the Proteins that you need to eat. Meat has every type of protein that yo need to grow properly which is why your Mom is concerned. It is VERY VERY hard to get all of these Proteins without meat. Also it is fairly hard to get all the B vitamins without meat. If you are willing to eat Eggs, this will completely replace meat nutrionally. Eat an egg a day and you will be OK.

If eggs are out, you will want to eat plenty of Beans and Legumes as they contain the missing proteins. Soy Beans are popular for this reason, plus they are really flexible. Other than that, I would try to eat at least 20 different fruits and veggies on a weekly basis. As long as you do that, you will be OK.. Try to mix it up as much as possible. As long as you eat plenty of BEans and a good variety of other stuff, you will be just fine. No more details are necessary. Good luck with your change of diet.

It is totally ok to be a vegetarian! I'm 14 adn I have been one for like 10 months maybe : / I LOVE IT! lol! I never liked meat so I have no urge to eat it. If you do feel like eating it though, go out and buy a veggie burger or Chik'n Nuggets. Some good brands of mock meat are morning star and Boca. Are you planning on eating seafood still? If so, then eat shrimp when you feel like eating meat. Pasta is always good, rice, burritos, quesadillas, vegetarian pizzas, there are endless possibilities. You will have to combine foods to get the equivalent of meat. Meat has a greater concentration of amino acids than vegetables, including soy products. Still you can combine, for example, beans and rice for a complete protein. There are soy based protein drinks that give you a complete protein. Another area that vegetarians get in trouble is fat intake. You need fat for the health of your body. Saturated fat is actually better than unsaturated fat. Coconut oil is saturated and better for you than the unsaturated kind that we have been brainwashed to believe is good for us. Unsaturated fat can get saturated with bad stuff in the cooking process. Coconut oil is great for cooking and better for your health. Tropical Traditions sells a good coconut oil. Then there is a third area of concern for vegetarians. It can become a bondage. Instead of enjoying a meal, they can get paranoid about anything and everything they see on their plate. Meals are no longer a pleasant thing. They constantly worry if some vestige of meat is somehow there. The fourth area of concern is that some vegetarians feel it is their duty to convert everyone around them by constantly preaching at them. Now there is only one reason, that is legitimate, for becoming a vegetarian. You do it because you believe you will become healthier. Any other reason is pure hocus pocus. I say that because it is not easy to 100% maintain a vegetarian lifestyle. Then there are all those degrees of vegetarianism. You'll have to pick how far you want to go. Most vegetarians I know are weak and anemic looking, frankly. A natural-path told me he preferred the vegetarian lifestyle but because he loved to run he ate meat. More energy. I concur. I have lived a very active lifestyle, to say the least, and I have found the same thing. Meat gives me more energy to compete and perform. Saying that, I also realize that store bought meat is filled with sundry hormones and chemicals. Fish is totally unregulated. A vegetarian restaurant got shut down by the health department in Arizona because they found salmonella. You see how one can get paranoid about all this? I prefer to just enjoy my food and not go through all this hassle.

vegetarianism is very healthy.

what can you eat? well most vegetarians try to eat rice and beans and milk products plus salads and nowadays you can
even get veggie hot dogs and burgers.

There is a lot a vegetarian can eat.
I am one too. But very strict. I cook most of my meals because the processed food could have been packed or prepared with spoons in meat or hands doing both meat and vegetarian.

Depends what kind of vegetarian you are.

I'm sick of hearing this, vegetarianism is not healthy.

For a healthy, balanced diet you need many different types of proteins and amino acids, not all of these can be found in plants. Even supplements aren't as good as th real thing. Without these proteins your capacity to grow, develop and repair yourself will decrease.
You also need the fats in meat. Yes, too much fat can be bad, but no animal fat and no cholesterol whatsoever is much worse.

Our bodies are designed to eat meat. Don't listen to the pseudo-scientists telling you they aren't, they are, but we do need vegetables as well. Apart from possibly eating too much fat if you over indulge yourself, there are no nutritionally downfalls of the meat eating diet. What's more, as you know your body is designed to eat meat, you can safely assume that evolution wants us to eat meat, and there has to be a reason for that.

Simple answer, meat is the most nutritious food around, and there are some things in meat that are essential for human health you can't get anywhere else.

Eating meat is, as an omnivore, a human's natural diet, don't go to the unhealthy, unnatural diet that is vegetarianism. As a child, you are not yet fully grown, and it is in these next few years that you will be growing much more, without meat in these few years your growth, development and haelth could be damaged forever.

There are a lot of good websites and books. Soy and other beans are good for your protein. Stir fry is an easy way to cook vegetables. Humus is yummy. Try a bunch of different things. Look for a vegetarian restaurant in your town and see what you like. Good luck.

To really become a TOTAL vegetarian you must 1st go on a 3 day fast(fast=no solid foods just water) then at your age you will start hallucinating about foods such as A giant BIG MAC attacking your house and you have to eat it to save your abode.Next after about 2 weeks of water and grapes your kidneys shut down and you will be rushed to a DYALISIS unit in a LOCAL hospital...where the stick needles in veins to feed you all sorts of nice EXPERIMENTAL Drugs.. The whites of your eyes will be a little yellow from liver bile in your system but before u die they clear up alot.....SOUNDS LIKE FUN?? Eh??? So, at age 13 you will die and save your parents alot of money and heart aches you surely will bring upon them in your latter teen years. So, start today and in about 4 months you will be history....ask for cremation as it also cost less.
