OK, this is fortitudinousskeptic, and I wrote in about me and my buddy Goofus. But I had to sign out and sign back in under another name and get after this question again because there are too many dumba$$es out there trying to answer this question that don't have the first clue about butchering hogs.
Bacon IS from a hog's neck. IS, IS, IS. I used to make bacon by the barrelful when I worked for Dinner Bell Meats in Troy, OH. I also once spilled a barrelful of hog heads but that's another (funny) story. Not as funny as the time a guy clogged the guts auger, though, and they made me climb up over the truck and pull out the hog guts by hand. And by the way, a hog's a$$ end, the upper thigh of the back leg, is HAM. I also used to trim fat off of hams at the slaughterhouse. Get a grip on your cuts of meats, idiots. You about to make me gag on the ham sandwiches I ate on lunch breaks at the slaughterhouse.

In it's native tongue Bacon actually does mean just that. Bacon means "back or side of". Not every word was orignally English you know?
Bacon is not from the neck by the way, it is from the side of the pig. The neck is not used for anything, but hot dogs and possible bad quality ground pork. The closest to the neck are the shoulder cuts....and guess what!? They are called the shoulder cuts. Amazing, huh?

I don't think bacon is a pig neck. SOmeoene else maybe can confirm, but anyway, I can take the same cut of meat and do 20 things with it, plus there are a lot of old names for things.
Bacon and pancetta for example are the same thing, but cured a little differently (smoked, VS salted)
Anyhow, if you are a veggie who is ticked off, why don;t you call an apple, "seed bearing reproductive embryo of a tree that was viciously murdered by a pshyco vegetarian"

I don't really eat pork, but bacon is different from just "neck slices of a pig" it is treated and smoked and has nitrates added to it, so I believe it would be false to just say "neck slices of a pig"!

I guess I don't need to say it because I already know what it is. Like steak, for example. Right now, my buddy Goofus is out in the pasture feeding on a twilight snack of grass. I hope he eats good because he is slowly turning those meals into muscle. Sometime when we get a cold snap in February, I will stun him by bludgeoning him in the head with a hammer, and then stab him in either side of his neck with a hunting knife to sever his carotid arteries and watch him bleed to death. Then I will skin him, string him up by his back legs, gut him out, then run him through my meat saw to cut his muscles into 2 pound pieces of cow parts. But that's too complicated to explain all that. So I just would rather call it "steak". Oh, by the way, would you like to come over and help on butchering day? I'm gonna miss my little buddy. I'll have to reminisce on our good times as he's sizzling on my grill........

This is a biased question and the reason you don't say that is because then you will be less inclined to eat said item.
This question really is saying why in the H do you eat meat. You should in my opinion be just like me. I have no desire to be a vegan or vegetarian or be like you so there, lol. Comon come up with a better question.

First off bacon is pig butt and it's not called what it is because people will not buy something that says PIG BUTT they'd rather buy bacon because the name isn't as bad.

First of all, bacon does not come from the neck it comes from the belly area. Secondly, we wouldn't be eating animals if they weren't wrapped in such delicious meat.

or we could just call it flesh!
How about some grilled flesh?
Why do you think you have the right to condemn people who eat meat, just because you don't. OK so you think it is wrong, then don't do it, but don't impose your beliefs on me. I don't agree with drinking or smoking, but I'm not telling everyone to quit smoking and to bring back prohibition. We live in a country that is free, and that means the choice to eat meat or not.
