I was diagnosed about 4 years ago, and haven't had too many flare up since, but my periods are never regular. My doctor told me I was too young to get a hysterectomy when I was first diagnosed, but if that will help, I am greatly considering it. Please get me some information!

Is it definite that you will get genital warts with HPV, or is that something that may or may not occur?

I am an MD. If you are referring to genital warts, then no, a hysterectomy will not help. But if you are trying to avoid cervical cancer, then hysterectomy will prevent the HPV virus from causing this life threatening disease.

HVp IS the virus that causes genital warts usually on the cervix, and leads to cancer. Remove the cervix, the cancer will not appear. HOw old are you? If you don't plan on having any children or any more children, there is no reason why you cannot request a hysterectomy. Check out Web MD. com for some other options

They have NOTHING to do with one another.

Your warts are caused by a virus. Removing your uterus will not remove the virus from your body. You will still be able to get reoccurances of warts in your vagina, on your perinium, and possibly on your anus.

Your irregular periods likewise do not have anything to do with your HPV infection. Fixing irregular periods is fairly simple- take the pill, use NuvaRing, or get the birth control patch (OrthoEvra). I'm surprised your doctor hasn't suggested this. I suggest getting a new doctor- one that will take your concerns seriously and also provide you with actual education. Planned Parenthood will do these things for very cheap, or maybe free, and confidentially.
